Sayville Public Schools and Shanti Fund Peace on Our Planet September 27 to October 2, 2010

A local community group has donated PEACE POLES to each of our school buildings. These will be erected in a location which will lend itself to reflection and peace! They will be four-sided with the saying “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in different languages on each side.

Let There Be Peace on Earth Peace Like a River Let There Be Peace on Earth Music groups and classes across the District performed age-appropriate songs related to Peace on Our Planet

Peace Walls were created with this art work. “Peace on Our Planet” Art projects were done by students in Art class and displayed outside of rooms throughout the schools. Peace Walls were created with this art work.

Sayville High School’s WSAY Radio Station announced the Youth Pledge of Nonviolence during the school day that was streamed over the web worldwide on October 1st

Gandhi quotes were posted, read, announced and discussed throughout “My Life is My Message” Gandhi quotes were posted, read, announced and discussed throughout the week in all schools.

Food Drives All schools conducted a “Peace on Our Planet Food Drive” to donate to Sayville Food Pantry and Island Harvest.

Schools created “Pinwheels for Peace” and conducted an outdoor ceremony for Peace on Our Planet at various times during the week.

Students and staff wore White Shirts to symbolize their personal commitment to Peace on Our Planet and took the Pledge of Non-violence on October 1st.

Interact Club students decorated the LOTE hallway with an array of peace signs and flags from around the world

Peace on Our Planet Bake Sale was sponsored by Interact Club students and all proceeds were donated to charity

Elementary students participated in Yoga exercises.

A Peace Pledge Banner was signed by all students and displayed in the Middle School Commons area “What would Gandhi do?”
