Sermon Introduction

The grace of the gospel tends to give rise to the question, “What do you do, now that you don’t have to do anything?” It’s not about what God wants FROM you, but what He wants FOR you as you connect, serve, proclaim and give.

1 Thessalonians 1:1-3 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace. 2 We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, 3 remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

“Whoever wants to be great, let him be a servant of all for the Son of Man came to serve, not be served” Mark 10:44-45

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1 Peter 2:9-10, ESV)

“What flows to you should flow through you”

“…to live by faith is not to live by what we can see, feel, and touch-our sense- experience-but on the basis of what God has said and promised. That is faith. It has its epicenter in our Lord Jesus Christ.” Sinclair Ferguson

How to SERVE Remember that God owns our time. We are stewards. You must therefore zealously guard in his mind the curious assumption ‘My time is my own’. Let him have the feeling that he starts each day as the lawful possessor of twenty-four hours.- C. S. Lewis

How to SERVE Remember that God owns our time. We are stewards. Begin with the pinky. Begin with each other. Serve Lafayette where it can feel it.

What flows to you should flow through you If you don’t serve, then you’re expecting someone else to bear the load that we’re all called to carry. What flows to you should flow through you

PERHAPS the biggest STEP OF FAITH is simply acknowledging that all of our time is from God and really belongs to Him Imagine a community of people where the operative question is… “What can I do to help?”

The third aspect of engaging in the work of faith, labor of love and perseverance of hope is “PROCLAIM” INCUBATE INVEST INVITE

The invitation that came to you needs to flow through you.

Imagine a community of people where “Babies having babies” is a good thing!
