Focus on College & Career This year you will take the Focus on College and Career course. This course provides you with an opportunity to explore careers that you are interested in pursuing. What you’ll learn is that there are things you can be doing NOW to prepare for your future.

Pathways There are 7 pathways at COHS: Architectural Design and Engineering Culinary Arts Digital Communications Medical Careers Coding and Robotics Empowering Entrepreneurs Visual, Performing Arts

Benefits of a Pathways Hands-on learning experiences Smaller community of students with similar interests Develop connections with people in the community for potential employment opportunities Explore interests for possible career pathways Special recognition at graduation ceremony for completion of academy requirements

Architectural Design & Engineering (ADE) Students have the opportunity to explore mechanical and architectural computer drawings as well as building projects in engineering and building trades. Freshman students can enter the program through Exploring Technology A or B The ADE Academy courses have been approved a-g for college entrance and application has been made to get CRC credit for CAD and Building Trades Academy classes may include: Exploring Tech A/B Building and Trades I,II Principles of Engineering A/B

Culinary Arts Designed to prepare students for employment in the culinary arts industry (Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation Industry Sector) and for post secondary training and education. Digital Communications There are 2 options for the Digital Communication Pathway: Graphic Design and Broadcast Journalism

Digital Communications: Emphasis on Graphic Design For students who are interested in the vast world of Graphic Design (Advertising, Logos, Magazine Design, Packaging Design, Poster Design, Apparel, etc.) Student will learn Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe InDesign, among other design programs. This program is entirely computer based, but don’t worry! It’s a skill, THAT YOU LEARN, not something you are already supposed to be talented at! Where to start? Digital Art and Graphic Design 1

Digital Communications: Emphasis on Broadcast Journalism Designed to provide students with an interest in video production, broadcast journalism, and film production with a concentrated and focused course of study Students have an opportunity to create/produce video productions and submit them to various competitions for review Students gain valuable skills producing a daily news show (WPTV) while working in a state of the art HD television studio Academy classes may include: Video Production I/II Film as Literature Ethics in Media Broadcast Journalism (WPTV)

Medical Careers For students who are interested in the health and medical fields. Students will learn human anatomy, physiology, diseases and patient care skills. Students will have opportunities for job shadowing and externships with local medical facilities. Pathway Sequence: Medical Careers I: Anatomy and Medical Terminology Medical Careers II: Physiology and Pathology Medical Careers III: Advanced Patient Care Skills

Coding and Robotics Which course should I start with? Designed for students who have a strong desire to learn coding, electronics, and robotics. Students learn a variety of coding languages including Ch, C, Robot C, Python, and Java. Students get to use robots at every class level, starting with small bots and building up to the creation of their very own unique mechanical robot. Which course should I start with? Basic Programming: for students with zero or just a little experience coding. Computing with Robotics: for students who have coding experience and can write small programs on their own. Advanced Coding with Robotics: for students who have completed Computing with Robotics.

Empowering Entrepreneurs EMPOWERING ENTREPRENEURS Pathway is designed to empower entrepreneurial literacy among high school students.   The students will learn how to be innovative and take an idea for a product or service, learn the process of taking to the marketplace and explore good business practices necessary to make a profit. Students will experience first-hand how to become an innovator and future entrepreneur.   In addition, students will have the opportunity to be part of COHS FBLA organization and take their projects to local, state, regional, and national events provide great experiences for those students that want to go the extra mile. What Classes will I be taking? Your Pathway classes will include: General Business (Grades 9-10) Empowering Entrepreneurs I (Grades 10-12) Empowering Entrepreneurs II (Grades 11-12)
