INFORMATIONAL SESSION Life-Long Learning Strategies Lessons in the Cree Ways for Modern Times OPEN TO ALL 4 NATION MEMBERS!! nehiyaw atisowin Who: Maskwacis Cultural College What: Adult Literacy Program Where: Four Nations When: When Needed Why: Inform members of Literacy Program being offered by MCC. Refreshments and Snacks Provided Determine inner strengths and abilities to discover personal visions, individual purpose, and a Cree way of life. Achieve higher academic results while maintaining a strong cultural foundation.

Guiding Principles Students will: Students will understand: Students will enhance a higher level of literacy to compete in the workforce and academic field of study. Students will enhance a higher level of numeracy to be successful in further education and the workforce. The basic expectation is that students will achieve higher academic conviction while maintaining a basic cultural etiquette. Provide a culturally appropriate environment to allow students to express ways of knowing, doing and being.

The program will offer: Daily Smudge and Prayer 10-16 week program Daily Lunch provided Reading and Writing Workshops Numeracy project-based learning Excellent Cree focused instructor 9 essential skills overview Short and Long-Term Goal Setting Life-Long Learning Strategies Individual Career Planning Local Location

Life-Long Learning Strategies as an Educational Transformation Learning ultimately supports the well-being of the self, the family, the community, the land, the spirits, and the ancestors. Learning is holistic, reflexive, reflective, experiential, and relational (focused on connectedness on reciprocal relationships, and a sense of place). Learning involves recognizing the consequences of one’s actions. Learning involves generational roles and responsibilities. Learning is embedded in memory, history, and story. Learning involves patience and time. Learning requires exploration of one’s identity. Learning involves recognizing that some knowledge is sacred and only shared with permission and/or in certain situations.
