2.4 Creating and Solving Inequalities Algebra 1 Mr. Alonso

Standards MAFS.912.A-CED.1.3 Represent constraints by equations or inequalities, and by systems of equations and/or inequalities, and interpret solutions as viable or non-viable options in a modeling context. For example, represent inequalities describing nutritional and cost constraints on combinations of different foods. MAFS.912.A-CED.1.1 Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use them to solve problems. Include equations arising from linear and quadratic functions, and simple rational, absolute, and exponential functions. MAFS.912.A-REI.2.3 Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable, including equations with coefficients represented by letters.

Opening Routine Ernesto and his family have just finished dinner at a restaurant in a region where the meal tax is 6% of the price of the meal. Ernesto leaves an 18% tip. With tax and tip, the total cost is $72.39. a) Write the equation that models this situation. b)Use your equation to find the price of the meal without tax or tip.

Objective I will write and solve an inequality that represents a real-world situation

Essential Question How do you write and solve an inequality that represents a real-world situation?
