Presentation transcript:

Other interesting renal biopsy cases will be discussed. Case Series: Renal Biopsy Conference Renal Biopsy Conference Tuesday, August 27, 2013 Pathology Conference Room 12:30 PM -1:30 PM   Toxic Tubulopathies   Acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) is a common cause of acute kidney injury. The most common etiology of AIN is drug-induced disease. Multiple agents can cause AIN. A definite diagnosis of AIN is established only by renal biopsy. Early recognition is crucial because the renal damage is reversible, but patients will develop chronic kidney disease if diagnosis and treatment are delayed. The pathogenesis and histopathology of drug-induced AIN will be reviewed. Treatment strategies will be discussed. Case 1: [Presenters: Cai, Obi] 39 year old female with history levamisole induced vasculitis, crack cocaine abuse, present with skin rash/purpuric lesions on face, ears, hands (knuckles), buttocks, legs. She has AKI Case 2: [Presenters: Cai, Lai and Desai] 58 year old female with history of multiple myeloma and bone marrow transplant, present with sore throat, fever, generalized weakness, hematuria and AKI. Case 3: [Presenters: Cai, Christiano] 66 year old female with history of a single kidney, ESRD from unknown etiology and kidney transplant, present with reduced function of renal allograft. Other interesting renal biopsy cases will be discussed. Lunch will be served Conference Coordinators: Karlene Hewan-Lowe, MD ECU Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Hsiao Lai, MD ECU Department of Internal Medicine Division of Nephrology and Hypertension Presenters Ron Talento, MD ECU Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Qi Cai, MD ECU Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine *This conference is not a CME accredited event*
