Rule of Law – What are our school rules?

Rule of Law – What are our school rules? We behave Sensibly and safely at all times We Try hard with everything we do. We Achieve success through hard work We Respect ourselves and others and care about our school We Start school and lessons on time and try to be here every day

What do you think would happen if there were no school rules What do you think would happen if there were no school rules? How would children behave? Who should make the rules?

Are there any rules in school or in life (football, brownies/cubs, clubs etc) that you don’t really understand? All rules are made by someone who thinks that they are a good idea – not everyone necessarily understands them.

Do you think that the children‘s complaints are fair?

Why do you think Mrs Singh decided to scrap the school rules? What do you think will happen now that there are no school rules?

Why can’t you play games without rules? What other challenges will the children face if they don’t learn how to read or write or do maths?

Some people just don’t like following rules and these people are sometimes called rule breakers. Sabrina and her friends wanted to be rule breakers. They hated being told what to do; in fact they would sometimes do the very opposite just to annoy people. Sabrina and her friends found out that school, and indeed our communities, would be a very chaotic place if we didn’t have rules to help guide us.

Rules are made to make our lives easier Rules are made to make our lives easier. Do you have rules to follow at home? Do you follow them? What would life be like if you didn’t follow the rules at home? Some rules are made to make things fair, such as the rules you must follow when you are playing a game. Imagine how unfair games would be if there were no rules. Some rules are made to keep us safe. The children at Broomfield were hurt when there were no rules. Safety rules are made to keep us safe but also to keep other people too.
