Over 100 men from Lloyds Papermakers at Sittingbourne have signed up as Territorials or reservists. Lloyds has agreed to pay wages in full for the duration of the war to all men with dependents.

Sittingbourne is now a military town, with troops billeted in local homes. Railway bridges, water and gas works and other strategic points in the district are guarded by military personnel.

The Sheerness Times reports that the photography shop and studio belonging to a man known as German Losel has been dismantled under a heavy attack of stones.

Civilian residents on the Isle of Sheppey and the Isle of Grain are now forbidden to use telescopes or field glasses.

A recruiting rally with a lantern slide lecture is held at the Maypole, Borden.

A Kent Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital opens at Trinity Hall, Sittingbourne. It remains open until May 10 th 1915.

The Sittingbourne Division Emergency Committee submits instructions for Civil Emergency Measures for the Sittingbourne area. These instructions are later recommended as a guide for other Kent Local Emergency Committees.

1 lone German plane flies over Herne Bay, the Isle of Sheppey, Sittingbourne and Faversham. 4 Bombs are dropped from the plane on Sittingbourne. There is public relief that 1 blackbird is the only victim of the raid.

The Princess Irene, a minelayer, explodes in the Medway estuary off Sheerness. 352 people are killed – including 273 officers and men, 76 dockyard workers who are on board.

28 bombs fall on Sittingbourne and Milton Regis; 2 civilians are injured. Buildings are damaged in Unity Street, Sittingbourne.

There is an explosion at the Faversham Gunpowder Works. At least 116 people are killed, including the whole of the Works Fire Brigade.

Sheerness and Bluetown are bombed by German Gotha planes. 32 bombs fall on and around the Naval Dockyard. 3 civilians and 8 military personnel are killed.

Faversham welcomes a party of over 80 Serbian refugee children, accompanied by 4 attendants, to be given accommodation at The Mount, Ospringe.

Work starts on the construction of a cricket pavilion at Borden Grammar School as a memorial to the Old Bordenians who fell in the Great War.
