“Everyday Use” Annotation Assignment Now that you have heard this excerpt once it is time for the close reading of this text. Get out your highlighters! Begin by rereading this excerpt. As you read think about the characterization of Dee, Maggie, and Mama (the narrator). In one color, highlight specific diction the narrator uses to characterize each woman. Highlight any imagery the narrator uses to characterize each woman. Make annotations (notes) in the margins about the significance of what you highlight. Your excerpt should be thoroughly and purposefully annotated. I expect thoughtful annotations!
