THE OLD 300

Old 300- settlers -land grants in Stephen F Old 300- settlers -land grants in Stephen F. Austin's first colony in January of 1821 after INDEPENDENCE. He made plan with Mexico Moses Austin (Stephen’s father) He made plans SPANISH, but he died by Independence in 1821 By 1824, most Old 300 were in Texas.

TEJAS Y Coahuila Coahuila y Tejas Texans lived under the State Flag of Coahuila y Tejas in the 1821 and 1830’s Angered Texans the capital became Saltillo, Coahuila.

1824 Mexican Constitution Constitution of 1824 set up government for Mexico (like US Constitution & Spain) Catholic religion was made the state faith The president and vice president were elected for four-year terms by the legislative bodies of the states Limited powers of the president. Slavery was not allowed in the new country of Mexico Limited rights for WOMEN ( property rights)

State Colonization Law of 1825 heads of families who immigrated given league of land contracts were given to empresarios for a specified numbers of families, Ten years colonists were to be tax-free, Colonists acquired citizenship by settlement
