4 Children should be able to determine what they are allowed and not allowed to do.

Parental Impacts The caregivers are the center of a child’s world for a number of years. How many years?

Parental Impacts Maternal Influences- all the effects a mother can have on her child Super mother-provides educational experiences for children and lets them initiate activities Vs. Zookeeper mother- gives children good physical care, but little interaction Very competent= A Low in competence= C

Three major styles of parenting Overly-Permissive Authoritative Authoritarian Descriptions?

Authoritarian Parents enforce rigid rules and demand strict obedience to their authority “My Way or the High Way” Produces obedient and self-controlled children. Emotionally stiff, withdrawn, apprehensive, with not curiosity

Overly Permissive Give little guidance, a lot of freedom (too much), do not hold children accountable for their actions Rules aren’t enforced “Do what you want” Produces dependent, immature children who misbehave frequently Tend to run all over the place

Authoritative Supply firm, consistent guidance with love and affection Balance their own rights and their children’s rights Control behavior in caring, responsive way “Do it for this reason” Produces competent children who are self-controlled and independent Tend to be assertive and inquisitive

Global Parenting Habits Please complete the following tasks to help analyze how American parenting styles compare with parenting styles around the world. Create a Chart that lists multiple facts about each of the different parenting styles. On the back, create a Venn diagram that will compare and contrast American parenting style to a country/region that you are able to research.
