Blog Blunder Alex was in seventh grade. He was not the kind of person who got into serious trouble, at school or at home. In fact, most people would have described him as polite and pleasant.

Sometimes, though, people make bad decisions Sometimes, though, people make bad decisions. One day, Alex thought it would be funny to blog about the teachers at Westmoreland Junior High. In his blog, he called Mr. Willard a big doofus. He said Mrs. Jones was “the worst teacher ever,” and that Mr. Johnson smelled like old cheese.

A week later, Alex was daydreaming in science class when he was called to the office. He sat down in front of a stern-looking Principal Chalmers. “Alex, I have seen your blog and I am very disappointed,” he said. “I know you enjoy being in band. But because of your actions, you have been kicked out of band for the year. You must sell your saxophone.”

When he got home, Alex found his parents waiting for him in the living room. “The school called. We’re disappointed in you,” Dad said. “You are grounded for a month, starting today. No computer, no cell phone. Hopefully you will spend that time figuring out a good way to apologize to the teachers you hurt.” Alex suddenly felt very bad.

To make matters worse, when Alex went to football practice the next day, Coach Harris pulled him aside. “Don’t bother putting on your pads, Alex. Anyone who hides behind their computer calling people names is a coward, not somebody I want on my team. You are off the team. Hopefully, you will reflect on your actions and come back next season ready to be a team player.” Alex felt terrible.

Alex spent lots of time thinking about what he did wrong Alex spent lots of time thinking about what he did wrong. He realized he should have considered the consequences before posting. He also concluded that what you post can spread like wildfire – and burn a lot of people along the way.
