Understanding Task Lists Tasks Lists are used to identify tasks that need to be performed (such as immunizations). In addition, Task Lists help document those tasks by providing charting capability. CHKD uses eKiDs PowerChart for Task Management. In eKiDs PowerChart, Task Management can be performed at two levels – in the Patient’s Chart (Single Patient Task List) and in the Organizer (Multi-Patient Task List). The Single Patient Task List (SPTL), displays all tasks for a single patient. The Multi Patient Task List (MPTL) displays tasks for several patients for a specific department. Understanding Task Lists - SPTL The Single-Patient Task List is found by opening a patient’s chart and selecting the Task List tab. It lists all tasks for a specific patient and displays limited additional information, such as the task status, scheduled date and time, and the details of the order associated to the task. Understanding Task Lists - MPTL The MPTL is displayed as a tab on the Organizer. It lists tasks for a group of patients sorted by a common criterion, such as all tasks for the patients at a particular nursing station. Lesson One: Components of Task Lists 4

Task Assignment Procedure Six-year-old patient Barbie Q. Doll has presented for a well child check. She was previously registered in Epic and was checked in upon arrival. When Barbie is assigned to a room, the staff members use the PM Conversation function to move her from the waiting room to Blue 2. Janie Doe, a nurse at a CMG office, has entered standing orders for the patient. For a six-year old well child visit, Janie entered an Audiometry screening and a Vision Screening. The physician approves the orders that Janie enters in PowerChart. Based on the orders that Janie entered, tasks have appeared on the task list. Ana, another nurse at the CMG office, performs the Audiometry and vision screenings. When complete, she enters the results of the tests by using the chart details functionality from the task list. When the results are entered, Dr. Jane Doe can see the results and communicate any necessary follow-up or intervention to the patient’s parent or guardian. Not all orders will trigger an entry on the task list. If an order has an associated task to be completed, it will appear on the task list. Lesson One: Components of Task Lists 5

Components of Task Lists - SPTL Description 1 Task List Toolbar The Task List Toolbar allows the user to quickly chart tasks by clicking on the associated icon. 2 Refresh Button The Refresh Button displays the time that the data were last refreshed. 3 Information Bar The Information Bar in the SPTL located above the Scheduled Patient Care sub-tab displays the selected date range for tasks. 4 Task-at-a-Glance Bar The TAG (Task-at-a-Glance) bar is the first untitled column in the Single or Multi-Patient Task List. 5 Tasks Actual tasks that appear on the Task List. Components of Task Lists Task List Toolbar The Task List toolbar appears in the right hand corner of the Single and Multi Patient Task Lists. It allows you to quickly chart tasks by selecting the appropriate charting option on the toolbar. (Charting functionality will be discussed later in the CBT.) Components of Task Lists Information Bar - SPTL The Information Bar in the SPTL is located above the Scheduled Patient Care sub-tab and displays the selected date range for tasks. The tasks that are displayed on the task list are generated from the date range in the system. If the date is inaccurate, the current tasks may not display. To change the displayed date range, you can right-click on the Information Bar. This will be discussed later in this CBT. Lesson One: Components of Task Lists 9

Components of Task Lists Current Patient List Current Date Range Information Bar - MPTL The Information Bar in MPTL is also located above the Scheduled Patient Care sub-tab. In the MPTL, the Information Bar displays the name of the current patient view and the selected date range for tasks (Unlike in SPTL where no patient list view is listed because all tasks relate to the same patient.) The tasks that are displayed on the task list are generated from the date range in the system. If the date is inaccurate, the current tasks may not display. To change the displayed date range or the patient view, a user can right-click on the applicable portion of the Information Bar. This is discussed later in this CBT. Components of Task Lists Task-at-a-Glance Legend The Task-at-a-Glance Legend provides an explanation of the symbols used on the Task-at-a-Glance Bar. To access the Task-at-a-Glance Legend, select Task-at-a-Glance Legend from the Options menu. Lesson One: Components of Task Lists 12

Components of Task Lists Menu Bar The Menu bar in PowerChart rests underneath the title bar. There can be many menu bars on a screen at one time. Menus within the menu bar can be accessed by pointing and clicking. In the screen print above, the Options menu is being accessed. Lesson One: Components of Task Lists 13

Components of Task Lists Menu Bar: Task List Menu The Task List Menu is used for task-related actions on the Task List. From within the Task List menu, a user can chart tasks, reschedule tasks, view task and order information, or a patient snapshot of information. The Task List menu can be accessed by clicking on Task List from the Menu Bar. Lesson One: Components of Task Lists 14

Components of Task Lists Refresh Button It is imperative to refresh your display by clicking on the Refresh Button. Otherwise, the data that you are looking at may not be up-to-date. Lesson One: Components of Task Lists 15

Components of Task Lists The Navigator (MPTL Only) The navigator allows you to view tasks by selecting a patient name. Clicking on a patient’s name causes that patient’s tasks to scroll into view. Deselecting the check box to the left of the name causes the patient’s tasks to be hidden from the display on the right. In the Navigator above, names bold in black with a check mark have tasks on the lists; names in gray with an X do not have any tasks and cannot be selected.
