Schwab: Investing in Customer Intelligence Strategy Front Office Integration Business Intelligence/ Data Warehousing Capture value from Internet investments Develop customer intelligence framework Target direct marketing to individual customer preferences Build Customer Loyalty Enhance revenues and profits Client name: Charles Schwab Capital Markets & Trading Phase of project: Business Intelligence Blueprint, Design and Development Challenge: Measure and improve the quality of customer service received by the customers of one of the world's largest financial services firms. Our Solution: Braun worked with the Capital Markets & Trading division of Charles Schwab & Co. in San Francisco to build a data mart and business intelligence reporting system that integrates data from a variety of sources, both internal and external, to enable securities traders to measure and improve the "execution quality" of securities trades performed by Schwab on behalf of its customers. The new system allows trading management to assess both the speed with which trades are executed and the degree to which Schwab is obtaining the best prices in the marketplace for its clients. Schwab is now able to analyze the execution quality of millions of daily trades by Exchange, Trader, Security, Order Origination Channel and numerous other business perspectives, which allows them to more effectively route trades to the most efficient markets and thereby improve customer service. Results: Braun laid out a multi-product architecture marrying best-of-breed business intelligence tools with state-of-the-art database design.This blueprint was executed in phases over a four month period to satisfy the reporting needs of Schwab's CM&T business unit. This project has made the managers in CM&T self-sufficient for their analytical reporting needs. This project is serving as a prototype for the future architecture of Schwab's entire corporate data warehouse.

BioPharma: Driving Rx Product Growth Strategy Business Intelligence/ Data Warehousing Internet Franchise drug being challenged by new entrants and scheduled to come off patent. Consumer and doctor awareness central to success Two personalized, community building web portals envisioned Branded site for drug Unbranded site around treating the disease User group identification and requirements Content selection and repurposing Leverage customer profile database to bootstrap personalization process Implemented content management, personalization, web portal & tools, branding, hosting partner identification and Internet marketing Client name: Biogen (BioPharma Company) Phase of project: Full Solution – strategy through implementation Challenge: The first column of bullets on the slide summarize this. Biogen’s flagship drug, Avonex, treats MS. It is a hyper-competitive market for MS treatments. Biogen (Avonex) is the leader. The competitors had created a stronger web presence and Biogen was starting to see market erosion. Biogen also needed to connect to the entire community of people affected by MS: patients, doctors, caregivers, etc. They needed to build and maintain long-term relationships with these people in order to ensure that their product was used. (There is no cure for MS. But, Avonex can help prolong quality of life. It is a drug that someone with MS should take for his or her entire life. There is a high degree of people who go off therapy. There is low treatment usage: 400,000 people with MS in US, only 140,000 are on a form of treatment!) Our Solution: Help them envision and implement 2 web sites: Avonex.com and MSActiveSource.com to build a community around MS and their treatment for MS. MSActiveSource is unbranded, definitive source of MS info. Avonex is branded, superset of content and functionality as MSAS but also has community and tools for people on the Avonex therapy. We helped them define their user segments, devise content strategies based on those segments’ needs, devise tools to help build community and enable greater disease management capabilities for MS sufferers. We built both portals using a personalized portal framework and shared content management repository. What was provided is a reference architecture for portal development. When their next drug comes out, they will be able to reuse much of the technology that was built to support Avonex. Huge long-term IT cost savings. Results: All site metrics (registered users, site visits, length of sessions) beat industry norms and are above initial expectations. Most recent quarterly sales were record sales. Biogen has strengthened its brand and community as a result of the web site.
