Math, PE, Science and Off Campus Options The questions counselors get are most frequently related to the topics listed above. In an effort to help students navigate these areas, we’ve made “cheat sheets” for Math, PE & Science. For programs that are off campus, your best resources is your current counselor AFTER you’ve done initial research on your own.

Math! Math is often students’ most difficult subject. Guiding questions for you to discuss with your math teacher and parents: Is math part of my future college and career goals? What math is appropriate for me in order to be challenging but also allow me to perform at a level to meet my post high school goals? What do my colleges of interest want to see as far as a math pathway? Cheat sheet can be found online…

Math Cheat Sheet

PE! Can I waive PE? Can I get credit for the kickboxing team I’m on? How does Bellevue College PE work? Do I still have to run the 5k if I take 7th period PE? We know that fitting PE in can be tricky. Essentially every student now needs 1.5 credits of PE. We cannot waive PE for anyone who is part of Core 24 requirements (current 9th & 10th graders). It’s important you know the rules around PE so you don’t wait until the last minute and discover you need to take 2-3 PE classes senior year.

PE Cheat Sheet As you go down the chart, it provides options with fewer classes taken during the school day

Science Cheat Sheet

Off Campus Options Whether you’re trying to squeeze in graduation requirements so you can take courses you’re passionate about on campus OR you just would rather take courses at the college level OR you have a passion that is taught through an alternative program, some of these options might be for you!

Program Running Start Private Instruction PE/Music 7th or 0 periods Summer School WaNIC Online Learning ABOUT Running Start is a WA program that allows high school students to earn credits toward both high school AND college at a local community college. Students must be Juniors or Seniors, with a minimum of 10 credits earned, and must meet all entrance requirements (placement test or alternative) as outlined by the college. Your counselor, in conjunction with an administrator, may approve credit for private lessons or learning experiences. Applications for such credit may be picked up and returned to the Counseling Center.  Prior approval is required for credit consideration.  All conditions stated on the form, including verification must be successfully completed before credit is accepted. 7th and 0 periods are offered at Issaquah High School. Each year there are different offerings depending on teacher and student interest. For the 2017-18 school year, optional 0 and 7th periods are listed in our course guide. Registration for this takes place via a google doc NOT in Student Access. Issaquah School District provides summer school for both “get ahead” and credit recovery/grade improvement. WANIC, the Washington Network for Innovative Careers, is a consortium of seven school districts in the region to the northeast of Seattle, which have been in partnership for over 20 years and share Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.  Online classes are offered through the Issaquah School District's Online Learning Department. The outside credit limit for 9-12 graders is four (4) credits. Students may take up to four outside credits with a maximum of two credits taken in one school year.  READ FIRST https://sites.google.com/site/ishscounseling/RST https://sites.google.com/site/ishscounseling/academics/outside-credits/outside-music-credit http://courseguide.issaquah.wednet.edu/ihs_2017_2018/index.php/7th-period-courses http://www.issaquah.wednet.edu/academics/programs/summerschool http://www.lwsd.org/school/WaNIC/About-Us/Pages/default.aspx https://sites.google.com/site/ishscounseling/course-selection/FAQ/online-classes
