Guided Reading and Math Workshop Guided learning groups are referred to as “Workshop”. Workshop models are intended to provide more individualized instruction. Students are moved through a rotation of project based, hands on learning activities and small group instruction led by the teacher.

Classroom Expectations Clip system Everyone starts on Green and always has the opportunity to move their clip back up or soar above and beyond. Yellow is a warning, Blue will have a teacher given consequence Red (if severe enough) will result in a referral A big goal in 2nd grade is for students to own their behavior choices. You can check your students behavior using Class Dojo. Colors are tied directly to our token economy in the classroom. Students are able to spend their currency every Friday at our classroom store.

NWEA: Gauging Our Progress We get where we need to be by setting goals and creating a plan of how we are going to reach them. Students will be creating goals and plans to help them achieve. NWEA is an adaptive test. It helps us as teachers to know what students are ready to learn. Every student will have individualized goals based on their capabilities.

Practice makes perfect. Take Home Folders Practice makes perfect. Any homework given is an opportunity to extend our learning beyond the classroom. **The frequency of homework and the content of homework will be based on our mastery of the concepts being taught. ** Reading should happen on a daily basis and logged weekly. 15-20 minutes per day is recommended. Math facts are a must for fact fluency- which is a huge foundational skill for 2nd grade. Folders will be sent home daily unless otherwise communicated. Please have students bring them back to school each day. Homework, notes, reminders and other important information should be kept in this folder.

Finley: classroom “Pet” Finley is our classroom traveling "pet"! Every weekend we try to make sure that he gets an adventure outside our classroom to spend time with a student. While the student has Finley they will journal about their fun, take (or draw pictures) of the activities they do, and complete a book review on one of Finley's favorite books.  The goal is for students to have fun, be creative and strengthen their secondary perspective writing skills. Students (and Finley) will share their journal entry and book review with the class upon returning to school Monday!

Classroom Volunteers & Parent Support Feel free to support and contribute to supporting your child’s learning through classroom supplies as well. We are always in need of tissues, paper, pencils, crayons, glue sticks etc. If you are interested in helping in our classroom during centers, for classroom parties or for field trips please feel free to check out the sign up sheet! We’d love to have your support. Remember, you may need to complete the background check. Gifted and Talented Program Fundraiser Donation

Resources and Communication A texting app that is used to send group reminders (such as homework assignments, daily reminders etc.) Text @9deaec       to phone number: 81010   Sign up for Class Dojo to monitor your student's daily behavior!  The paper invitation code is in your child’s take home folder.
