The original Greek word there is pascha, and it should have been translated as Passover. King James had instructed them to use words that conformed to the beliefs and practices of the Church of England. Acts 12:4 “And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.”
DEATH Luke 23:44-49 BURIAL Luke 23:50-56 RESURRECTION Luke 24:1-9
Jesus died, He was buried, and God raised Him from the dead.
God wants to do the same thing in you!
1 God wants to remove the guilt of sin.
Romans 6:3-5 “Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in new-ness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection.”
Romans 6:3-5 Just like Jesus was put to DEATH God wants to put to death your old sinful self Just like Jesus was BURIED God wants to bury old self in waters of baptism Just like Jesus was RESURRECTED God wants to resurrect you as new Christian
Romans 6:3-5 God wants to do the same thing in each one of us as He did concerning His own Son. And He will accomplish that in your life when you put your faith in Jesus Christ as the one and only Son of God, and then allow God to wash away your sins by being baptized into Christ.
1 God wants to remove the guilt of sin.
2 God wants to remove the power of sin.
Romans 6:6-7 “Knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.”
Romans 6:6-7 God wants to do even more than save you from the guilt of sin in your life. Matthew 1:21 “She will bear a son, and you shall call His name Jesus: for He shall save His people from their sins.” He wants to fully remove the burden of your sin. God also wants to save you from the power of sin in your life.
Romans 6:6-7 How does God free us from the power of sin? By crucifying the old self that wants to sin. Romans 6:17-18 “But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”
2 God wants to remove the power of sin.
3 God wants to resurrect you to a new life.
Romans 6:8-11 “Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 6:8-11 Is your life truly crucified with Christ? Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me...” 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Is your life truly crucified with Christ?
