Revive Us Again Nehemiah 8:8-11

8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading. 9 And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law. 10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength. 11 So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.

1. So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly . in a way that is readily distinguishable by the senses; clearly: "reading each word slowly and distinctly" synonyms: decidedly · · definitely · clearly · noticeably · obviously · plainly · evidently · unmistakably · manifestly clearly · plainly · intelligibly · audibly · unambiguously How do we read the book of the law of God? 2 Tim.2:15 - Study it … John 5:39,40 Search it 2 Tim.4:2-4 Teach it … Heb. 4:10 Reflect upon it

2 They gave the sense of it. They explained it…they told them what it meant. Acts 8:30-31 Understandest thou what thou readest? 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? Acts 19:1-8 Re-baptized…Only had been baptized by John’s baptism.

Acts 19: 1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 7 And all the men were about twelve.

3. Caused them to understand it. made application… 1. They read the book of the law of God, carefully, distinctly 2. They explained it so all could understand it 3. They made application of the law to them…Now do it. Jesus - used parables to help people understand His teaching: 5 Wise; 5 Foolish Matt. 25:1-11 The Broad Way– the Narrow Way Matt. 7:13-14 The Good Samaritan. Luke 10:26-37

Preacher: Are you willing for some Criticism?

Lord, Wake us up! Lord, Let us reach out! Lord, Help us to keep ploughing. Lk. 9:62 Onward… Lord, Keep our Goals before us. I Cor. 9:27 2 Tim. 4:6-7

The Jewish Sanhedrin imprisoned Peter and John and commanded them no longer to speak In the name of Jesus. But they said: Acts 4:20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. Acts 8:4 4 Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word. Christians went everywhere and preached the Word.

Acts 17:6  And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

Acts 19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. 13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. 14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? 16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. 17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

We need people to have a book burning! 17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. 18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. 19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

The turning away from idolatry to the Living God. Look at the idolatry that we have in the world today. Look at what a fantastic opportunity to turn the world upside down.

Revive Us Again, Lord 1..Help us to listen to God’s Word 2. Help us to understand what He says 3. Help us to be moved to action once we Understand what God wants us to do.

Let’s make the Bible the #1 book sold, read, and studied and lived by, and its teaching demonstrated in the lives of all of us Christians.
