LITERARY TERMS Document that announced the separation of the 13 US colonies from Britain (7-4-1776)
Adams saw to it that Jefferson was appointed to the five man committee that was to prepare a declaration. The committee, after discussing the general outline that the document should follow, decided that Jefferson would write the first draft.
