Why go West? Learning Objectives Investigate the different reasons why so many white settlers moved West Why go West?

What do you think of when you hear the phrase... The Wild WesT! What do you think of when you hear the phrase... WILD WEST! Use words and/or pictures in your books to describe what you think it is.

Who went West? You will each be given a character sheet which tell you the reasons why your character wanted to move West. There are four characters... John Smith Jimmy McDonald Graham Digger William Wood Your first task is to read the sheet and then answer the questions in your book.

Who went West? You should now be an expert on the character you have been given. You are now going to circulate the room, in character. You need to find out about the other three people who are also travelling West and record the information you have discovered on the sheet provided. There is only one catch, you can only ask each character five questions each.

70 words no more, no less! Using the information you have read and gathered from other students sum up in 70 words the reasons why people wanted to move West.
