1. The Rationale The science of climate change is a relatively new field It is constantly evolving based on latest scientific findings, international agreements, national commitments & the realities on the ground.

1. The Rationale REDD+ encapsulates many of the challenges and opportunities for addressing climate change and the need for increasing expertise in order to do so. Tackling the issues of climate change requires  A wide array of expertise and innovative ideas and  An understanding of both the policy elements & the scientific facts related to climate change

1. Rationale For REDD+ programmes to be successfully devised, technical understanding is needed on Carbon accounting, National forest inventories, Spatial planning & biodiversity, addressing environmental governance, cross-sectoral policies and legal reforms, & stakeholder participation.

1. Rationale Engaging academia and training the next generation of experts is crucial to ensure that the world’s best efforts are directed at solving the climate change crisis. Academia – Key stakeholders in the REDD+ Readiness Process and Beyond Provide technical support Training & Capacity Building Research on REDD+ issues

1. Rationale Integrating REDD+ into University Curricula REDD+ concepts and methods into relevant university programmes Engage university networks as strategic platforms and centers of excellence for mainstreaming REDD+ education, research, development Ensuring the successful implementation of REDD+ in the Ethiopia
