Rewards of Obedience Naaman’s Mistakes A. Attempted to purchase God’s blessings with money: 5, 15-16; John 6:26-27; 1 Corinthians 11:22 B. He went to the wrong authority: 6; 2 Timothy 4:1-4; 1 John 4:1; Jude 3-4 C. He expected a sensational experience: 11; 1 Corinthians 1:22-25; Romans 10:2-3, 17 D. He was presumptuous, even angry: 11-12; Psalms 19:12; 2 Peter 2:10 Do we presume?

Rewards of Obedience 1. God is like man? Psalms 50:21 2. God will not require it? Psalms 10:4; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 3. “I shall not be moved”: Psalms 10:6; Psalms 1:4-5 4. “God hath forgotten … He will never see it”: Psalms 10:11; Exodus 34:6-7

Rewards of Obedience Naaman’s Obedience A. Changes Naaman had to make: - acknowledge his condition; identified by his flaws, not successes: Romans 3:23; Luke 19:10 - humble himself before God: 1 Peter 5:6 - think soberly (sound thinking), instead of being angry: James 1:19-20 - trust God’s word: 14; Matthew 7:21-23; Acts 27:25 - do it: James 1:22

Rewards of Obedience B. Obedience to God means: * Man’s limitations, helplessness: Jeremiah 10:23 * God’s word is understandable: Ephesians 3:3-4 * Must obey ALL of God’s word: James 2:10; Psalms 119:160 * Must obey from the heart: Romans 6:17 * No substitutes for God’s word: Galatians 1:6-9
