Credits Every class= 1 credit Block schedule- 4 classes each semester for 90 minutes each Potential to earn 8 credits per year 26 credits needed for graduation Academic, honors, AP (no 9th grade AP classes) GPA is calculated as weighted and unweighted Weighted accounts for honors courses- if student earns an A in honors, it is worth 4.5 quality points

Graduation Requirements 4 English 4 Math 3 Science (Earth, Biology and a Physical Science) 4 Social Studies (World History, American History I, American History II and Civics & Economics OR World History, AP US History, Civics & Economics and a social studies elective) 2 Electives (Career & Technical Education, Art or World Languages) 8 Electives 1 Healthful Living = 26 Credits Total
Promotion to the 10th Grade You must earn six (6) credits to be promoted to the 10th grade on the block schedule 1 credit must be English I 2 credits must be in Math, Science or Social Studies 3 additional credits must be earned
Core Classes English Science All 9th graders will take Honors English 1 Students who do well in Honors English 1 may be recommended for Pre-AP English II which will help them prepare for AP English courses Science All 9th graders will take Honors Biology or Honors Earth/Environmental Science. Based on Teacher Recommendation and Math Placement
Core Classes Social Studies Math All students will take Honors World History Math Fundamental Math and Introductory Math (Teacher Rec. only) Foundations of NC Math I and NC Math IB (2 sem sequence) Math 1 (Fall only – teacher recommendation only) Math Plus (Honors) NC Math II Honors NC Math II Honors NC Math III Honors Precalculus (Teacher Rec only– Student must have had NC Math II in 8th grade)
Healthful Living All 9th graders will take 1 semester of Healthful Living 1 (Health/PE) Honors Healthful Living – Teacher Recommendation If it conflicts with other classes, student can wait and take as upper-classman
Electives Students will sign up for 8 classes and 3 alternates 4 classes are cores and 1 is Healthful Living That means, students will sign up for 3 electives (1st choices) and 3 alternates
Scheduling We DO NOT make many schedule changes It is imperative that students select courses that are a good fit for them Students can increase rigor, but not decrease during schedule change period All scheduling and changes must go occur during the scheduled dates

Athletic Eligibility All incoming freshmen are eligible for athletics fall semester of their freshmen year. After 1st semester of their freshmen year, students are eligible if they pass 3 of their 4 classes during the semester previous to the sport they wish to play, have at least a 1.5 GPA (or 2.0 in previous semester), and attended school at least 85% of the days in the past semester.
