Reduction In Charger Sales Why have charger sales slowed down? Most iPhone customers think they do not need a new Lightning charger since they already have multiple Lightning chargers or data cables from the iPhone 5, 5S, or 6. Android users using micro USB are not aware of the power difference between, 1A, 2.1A and Quick Charging. The micro USB cable has been around since 2007 and there are many variations out there and customers don’t know which ones are best for their mobile device. Why should a customer even buy a new charger when they have a cable that physically plugs into the phone and the charging light turns on? It makes sense to most people that don’t understand there is a difference in what charger they use. Why do customers need faster charging? Faster charging reduces charging time and gives the customer a better experience. It also gives the customer a reason to purchase a new charger increasing your profits. The next two slides show charging rates. Once most people see the results, they will see the benefit of a $30 -$40 investment.

iPhone Charging Time   Apple iPhone 6/6S and iPhone 6/6S Plus can charge faster than 1A iPhones still ship with a slower 1A/5W power adaptor To rapidly charge the iPhone 6/6S and 6/6S Plus upgrade to a dedicated 2.1A/10W charger with smart IC Technology 2hrs 10min *Average charging time, actual charging time may vary depending on usage, phone settings and location

Android Charging Time   Many Android phones can charge up to 1.8A/9W needing a 10W charger Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging (AFS) technology increases the maximum charging power from 9W to 20W. This charging technology is also known as Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0 50% charge in 30min 1hr 40min 2hrs 20min 50% charge in 30min 3hrs 30min 1hr 20min 1hr 50min 2hrs 50min *Average charging time, actually charging time may vary depending on phone settings

Real World Charging So How Does This Effect Charging in the Real World? If an Android consumer using a GS6 with AFS/Quick Charge normally has a 30min commute to work they will get the following charge rates from their car charger: Using a 1A Charger – around .5% per minute getting a charge increase of 15% Using a AFS/Quick Charger – a little over 1.5% per minute getting a charge increase of 50% If an iPhone consumer using a 6S normally has a 30min commute to work they will get the following charge rates from their car charger: Using a 1A Charger – around .75% per minute getting a charge increase of 22% Using a Smart IC Charger – around 1.15% per minute getting a charge increase of about 35% Using a phone in the car with Bluetooth enabled, navigation, music streaming, varying signal strength and making voice calls will often result in the phone losing power faster than it can recharge when using a charger that is below the required power amount. *Average charging time, actual charging time may vary depending on usage, phone settings and location

Phone Charging FAQ How Can the iPhone 6 & 6 Plus Charge Faster Than 1A? Apple designed the iPhone 6/6S and iPhone 6/6S Plus with hardware to support faster battery charging around 1.5A /7.5W for the iPhone 6/6S and up to almost 2A / 10W for the iPhone 6/6S Plus. What is interesting is both of these phones still ship with a slower power adaptor (1A / 5W). To rapidly charge your iPhone 6/6S and 6/6S Plus, owners need to upgrade to at least a 2.1A / 10W charger that is either designed specifically for Apple devices with a built-in Lightning connector or with a charger that has Smart IC technology which will communicate with the iPhone and provide the extra charging power. How Can I Charge my Android Device Faster? Most Android phones are also capable of charging with more than 1A. Major Android phones can charge with up to 1.8A / 9W of power so the 10W charger would work to rapidly charge Android phones as well. Starting with the Note 4 then rolling into the GS6, GS6 Edge, GS6 Edge Plus and the Note 5, Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging (AFS) technology increases the maximum charging power from 9W up to 20W depending on the phone and the phones current battery level. Many other Android phones support this fast charging technology which is better known as Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0. With a QC2.0 charger, your supporting Android phone can charge up to 75% faster than a traditional charger.

Phone Charging FAQ How Does Fast Charge or Quick Charge Work? Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0 is the most up to date version of the fast charging technology available in Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ processors. Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging (AFS) technology also increases the maximum charging power similar to Quick Charge. The goal of Quick Charge is to reduce the charging time in both phones and tablets enabled with Quick Charge 2.0 by up to 75%. charger The image to the left shows a 30 min comparison. Qualcomm found that using a phone with a 3300mAh battery, a Quick Charge 2.0 enabled device went from 0% to 60% charge in 30 minutes, while a device without Quick Charge 2.0 using a conventional (5 volt, 1 amp) achieved just a 12% gain in the same 30 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CdcFspJPlc

Phone Charging FAQ What Quick Charge Devices Are Available for Android Devices? RO QC Car Charger, RO QC Wall Charger, RO QC Portable Charger, What is Smart IC Technology? How Does This Affect the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and Android Devices? In today’s market, several different USB configurations existing. Some ports are configured to fast charge Apple devices (which causes slow charging on Android phones). Some ports are configured to fast charge Android phones (which causes slow charging on Apple devices). Other ports are configured with Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ 2.0. Unless you know which standard your charger is configured for, you will be left with a slow charging device. This is where the Smart IC (Integrated circuit) comes in. The Smart IC is able to detect which device type you have (Apple, Android or QC2.0) then adjust the setting of the USB port in order to provide your device the maximum allowed charge rate.

Phone Charging FAQ What Car Chargers Will Charge an iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Faster? RO QC Car Charger, RO 4.2A Car Charger, RO 3.1A Lightning Car Charger What Wall Chargers will Charge an iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and Android Devices Faster Using Smart IC Technology? TYLT 4.2A Wall Charger, RO 4.2A Wall Charger, RO QC Wall Charger, RO 2.1A Lightning or Micro USB Wall Charger

Phone Charging FAQ What is a Smart Charger? A Smart Charger is a portable battery featuring fold away prongs for easy portability. The RO Smart charger includes either an embedded micro USB or Lightning cable. The charger also includes an additional USB port allowing the customer to simultaneously charge two devices. The RO Smart Charger offers a 9000mAh battery providing 3.1A of power which will give most phones on the market at least three full charges. The number one issue with portable chargers is remembering to charge them. Smart Chargers automatically charge the internal battery as soon as it is plugged into the wall making them ideal for traveling and for customers with busy lives and schedules. The RO Smart Charger will charge an iPhone 6 and 6 Plus at 2.1A from the embedded Lightning connector giving a faster charge than the OEM 1A Lightning charger. RO 3.1A Micro-USB & Lightning Smart Chargers

Phone Charging FAQ Will the TYLT Energi iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Power Cases Charge at the Faster Rate? What about the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge? Yes, the TYLT Energi power cases have an output of 1.8A - 2.1A. Each power case is designed to give as much power as the phone is designed to receive. The output is written on the inside of the power sleeve. Fast charging your phones allows you to ditch the bulky power sleeve sooner than later. The TYLT Power case automatically stops charging when the iPhone is at 100%. Will Charging at a Faster Rate Hurt My Phone? No, every phone contains a PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) which is designed to not let your phone charge faster than what it can handle.

Phone Charging FAQ Why Does Wattage Make a Difference? Wattage is the total power of a charger. Wattage is important because it takes into consideration both Voltage and Current. Many people only take current into consideration, but when voltage increases (in the case of Quick Charge 2.0) it increases the total power and causes your phone to charge faster. Imagine you have a swimming pool (phone) you want to fill up in 3 hours. Not only do you need a certain amount of water pressure (Current), but you need to have a hose size (Voltage) that can handle that water pressure. The right water pressure with the right hose size will give you the highest gallons per minute (Wattage) Volts X Amps = Watts 5 volts x 2.4 amps = 12 watts AFS or Quick Charge 2.0 5 volts x 2.1 amps = 10 watts 9 volt x 2.1 amps = 18 watts 5 volts x 1 amp = 5 watts

Phone Charging FAQ What Effect Does a Data Cable Have on Charging Ability? As long as the Micro-USB cable offers both charging and data functionality, it will charge at the fastest output from the USB charger with a Smart IC. The data portion is what allows the charger to communicate with the phone and tell it what kind of device it is and how much power it needs. All MFI Lightning cables have data functionality (required by the MFi program) and will charge at the fastest output from the USB charger. The quality of the cable also has a lot to do with charging speeds. A cheaply made cable will not have the ability to support a high amount of current. Cheaply made cables don’t have enough copper wire to handle a high amount of current. Can I Use the USB Port in the Computer or in My Car? Yes and no. The USB port in your car will charge your phone when using an appropriate charging cable however it will most likely not charge at the optimum rate. USB ports on computers and cars range anywhere from .5A to 1A of power. Charging at .5A is generally not enough power to make a charging impact on most mobile devices. To maximize charging in the car, a proper car charger is highly recommend for a better experience and faster charging times. USB ports in the car are not designed for maximum charging.

5 Talking Points How long ago did the customer purchase their current home and or car charger? If the charger was not purchased sometime in 2015 then it is too old. Even then it is best to make sure they are getting the proper charge so check their charger ratings. When the customer charges their phone, do they get at least 1% charge per minute? For example, when driving 20 min in a car will they get a 20% increase in battery life or only around 5-7%? A proper charger will provide 1% charger per minute. If you have a customer that does not want to purchase a new car charger and they parked in front of your store, kindly ask them to go out to their car and bring in their current charger. If it does not state 2.1A or show the QC logo then it is only a 1A charger and the customer should upgrade. Does the customers phone take multiple hours to fully charge? If the phone takes several hours to charge then they are using the wrong charger, refer to charging charts. Has the customer noticed when using their phone while it is charging it often does not show a charge increase? This means the customer is not using a charger that provides enough power so the amount of power charging barely equals the power being drawn.
