Do 1st: Write the question & the answer.  A MLB pitcher throws a baseball 60 feet —from the pitchers mound to home plate. The baseball moves at 95 mph. How many seconds does it take for the baseball to move from the pitcher to home? 2. Describe the location of the “Word Wall,” using 3 reference points.

Position The location of a place or object.

The measurement of two positions. Distance

The change of position over time. MOTION

Speed A “rate of motion” **SPEED = DISTANCE TIME

The object or location to which you compare other objects or locations Reference Points

We’re going to do a quick recap of Reference Points! Open your notebook to your Forces & Motion notes and write: “Reference Point Examples” Your goal is to come up with one of your own reference point examples!

Reference Points! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyBNImQkRuk

Let’s Sum Up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sA2zYD2A45c Now write two examples of reference points involvement in motion in your notes!

Title your notes Velocity and Acceleration

Brain Break! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89XkXOlPZdY

Velocity: What is it? Velocity is a speed in a specific direction. Formula: v= d/t + direction Examples of velocities: 30 m/s to the left 45 mi/hr west 18 km/s up

Velocity Example Problems 1. Tim was taking a rocket ship to his home in outerspace. If the rocket travels 900 km in 2 minutes towards the sun, what is his velocity? 2. Bobbi is driving North to her grandparents’ home in Ohio. If she drives 720 km for 12 hours, what is her velocity?

REMEMBER!!!!!!! Solve Velocity problems JUST LIKE SPEED problems. Just add in a DIRECTION.
