Tyrus Wong, Art in the Movies Kyrene de la Mirada Art Masterpiece
Tyrus Wong Born in 1910 in China, immigrated to the U.S. in 1919 (see picture), lived most of his life in California, and died there in 2016, at the age of 106! He grew up very poor, but learned to paint on old newspapers using brushes dipped in water and by reading books on Chinese art at the local library. Won a scholarship to a prestigious art school while he was still in junior high!
Tyrus Wong, Movie Artist Wong was best known for his work in the Disney film, Bambi. Wong’s paintings inspired the Bambi’s producers, writers, and animators, including Walt Disney, himself. Many movies that you see today are first inspired by the work of artists. Artists, such as Wong, often work as “art directors” for movies, serving as the lead designer for all artistic elements.
