Prosthetic Socket Fit & Comfort Score SCS
What Is the SCS Adaptation of ‘Pain Scale’ 0 (most uncomfortable) – 10 (most comfort) Subjective rating of comfort of the prosthesis
Study by Hanspal Purpose: To Validate the SCS Patients: 44 amputees (vascular, trauma, congenital) in a clinic setting
Independent Prosthetist Method M.D Seen by MD, records appearance of poor fit Patient fills out SCS Independent Prosthetist Waits 30 minutes Patient given SCS Treating Prosthetist Records fit of prosthesis Intervention to socket if needed After 20 minutes, patient given SCS Independent Prosthetist has no knowledge of intervention or not 1 Hour passes
Results SCS shows high, consistent correlation between the 3 scores from all assessors Strong relationship between reported SCS & clinical evidence of poor fit as seen by MD and prosthetist Significant changes in SCS after intervention
Conclusion SCS has shown repeatability, criterion validity and sensitivity to change
