Manual Handling What you should know Over a third of all accidents reported to the HSE and local authorities arise from manual handling Most of the reported accidents cause back injury Duties of staff Follow appropriate systems of work laid down for your safety Make proper use of equipment provided for your safety Co–operate with your employer on health and safety matters 3D LEISURE - Health & Safety Refresher Training Manual

Reduce the risk in manual handling situations Wherever possible, avoid: Holding loads away from the trunk Twisting, stooping or reaching upwards Long carrying distances Insufficient rest or recovery time Unpredictable movement of loads Large vertical movement Repetitive handling Strenuous pushing or pulling Can you: Use a trolley? Break down the load? Get help from others? Organise delivery and storage areas e.g. Shelves at the appropriate height? 3D LEISURE - Health & Safety Refresher Training Manual
