Today we are going to read a passage called “Jobs That Give Back Today we are going to read a passage called “Jobs That Give Back.” We are gong to think about ideas and clues that we can find about what’s ahead in our reading. Then we’ll make predictions and explain our clues

When good reader read, they remember to find clues about what’s ahead in a story or text. Once they find clues, they make predictions using the clues and their background knowledge. Good readers remember to explain their clues to tell why their predictions make sense.

Before you read, it’s important to look for clues that will help you make a prediction about what you’re going to read or what will happen in a story. You can refer to your Predicting Checklist to help you remember the predicting steps. Your Predicting Strategy Card gives you examples of narrative and expository clues to look for that will help you make predictions.

When reading expository texts, you should look at titles, headings, bold text, captions, sidebars, and pictures before making a prediction. You can remember all these elements by looking at your Predicting Strategy Card.
