The mission of the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) is to contribute to the more efficient functioning of the U.S. labor market by providing high quality job training, employment, labor market information, and income maintenance services primarily through state and local workforce development systems. Information in this section includes information for job seekers looking to advance and manage their careers (Take Charge) and entry-level people and others choosing a new career (Self-Assessments) and data to do research about different occupations and matching skills to occupations. Find Education Options Check out education and training options in your area that offer programs in your chosen occupation. The Education + Training section has information for people preparing for college, looking for vocational training and professionals looking for continuing education. 3 tools in this section are the Education and Training Finder, Scholarship Finder and Financial Aid Advisor I’ll provide a quick walkthrough of the Education and Training Finder. Under Find, click Colleges & Training * Narrow search by industry, then by occupation title, then by state or region of the country. * The Results page will give you list of schools in that area with programs related to that occupation.

Short Term Training Short-term training includes any program where a student can earn a certificate or award in less than two years. These programs can be an ideal way for many laid-off workers, career changers, and job seekers to upgrade their skills and demonstrate their qualifications to a potential employer. CareerOneStop’s new Short-Term Training Finder can help people locate specific training opportunities in their local area, state, or zip code.

Find Jobs The Job Search section of CareerOneStop provides some helpful resources. Under “Find Potential Employers”, you can use the Employer Locator to find contact information about a specific employer or list of employers by industry, occupation or location. Under “State Job Banks”, you can find connect to state job banks. Job seekers can post their resumes, view or apply for job openings, or visit private-sector or government and veterans job banks. Find a OneStop “People + Places to Help” provides you with access to various national and state employment and training programs such as Business Development, Veterans, and Unemployment Insurance. Green Jobs There’s a lot of buzz about Green Jobs. But job seekers, students, and even workforce professionals can find it difficult to define exactly what a green job is, what skills are needed, and what kind of training is available. In 2009, O*NET investigated the impact of green economic activities on occupations and job duties, and identified a list of 200+ green occupations. These models integrate economic and workforce development activities and demonstrate how talent development can drive economic transformation in regional economies across the United States.
