Changes to Westport 101 (Day 1)

Weekly Westport 101/Advisory Schedule Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Advisory Open, Closed, or Content Group

Types of Groups Closed Groups: Content Groups: Small groups 6 weeks Boys’ group, girls’ group, truancy group, life skills, etc. Open Groups: Students who are not selected for Content or Closed Groups will choose an open group 3 weeks Open groups will be high interest and fun Content Groups: 12 students per group 3 weeks Students will get extra time to master essential standards from one of 4 content classes (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies)

How will I be placed into a group? Monday: Students who have been chosen by teachers for Content or Closed Groups will receive stickers in their agendas telling them where to go Tuesday: Content and Closed Group students will head to their designated locations (see stickers in agendas) Open Group students will go directly to the gym Open Group students will hear their choices, choose their group, and get a sticker in their agenda

Rotation Schedule Content Groups: Rotate every 3 weeks Closed Groups: Rotate every 6 weeks Open Groups: Rotate every 3 weeks You will have a chance to rotate groups often to get lots of help and lots of chances to try different open groups!

Open Group Choices (Day 2)

Open Groups Students will choose their Open Groups on Tuesday in the gym We are going to go through each Open Group in more detail Please rate them from 1 to 5 on your paper (1 is the worst and 5 is the best)

Fitness Teacher: Coach Bellamy Location: Stage in Gym Do you want to learn more about fitness? Do you want to play sports? Do you want to hang out with Coach Bellamy? Then join the fitness group!

STEM Group Teachers: Ms. Schanz and Dr. Leitner Location: Classroom Do you like science and engineering? Are you interested in coding or video game design? Do you like to solve problems? Then join the STEM Group!

School of Rock Teacher: Mr. Pickard Location: Orchestra side room Do you know how to play guitar, bass, or drums? Do you like to sing rock music? Do you want to play music with your friends? Then join the school of rock!

Passion Projects Teachers: Ms. Mitchell and Ms. Schlafer Location: Library Do you have something you’re really passionate about? Cooking? Playing video games? Fashion design? Do you want to spend your RTI time researching and creating something to share your passion with others? Then join passion projects!

Culture Club Teacher: Ms. Omdal Location: Cooking Room/Studio Do you want to learn about other countries and cultures? Do you want to eat food from different places? Do you want to hang out with Ms. Omdal? Then join the culture club!

Study Hall Teacher: Ms. Shannon Location: Auditorium Do you need extra time to finish your classwork? Do you want to finish your homework so you don’t have to take any home? Do you need chrome books to finish your work? Do you want a quiet, calm place to work independently? Then join the study hall!

Peer Support/Mentor Teachers: Doves’ Teachers Location: Doves’ Classrooms Do you want to help with the Doves students? Do you like making a difference in someone’s day? Then join the peer support/mentor group!

Pick your favorites Look at your rankings and order the Open Groups from favorite (1) to least favorite (7) Take your time to rank these classes! This list will be very useful when you make your decision next Tuesday

How will this all work? (Day 3)

Weekly Westport 101/Advisory Schedule Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Advisory (Content and Closed Groups get stickers) Content and Closed Groups go to locations, Open Groups go to gym to pick their groups Open, Closed, or Content Group

Monday Find your Movement, Consequences, and Goal Setting sheet At the top, please find the Weekly Schedule On Monday, Advisory has already been filled in for you Please write the room number that you are in right now below where it says “Where do I go after 6th period related arts?”

Time to pass out stickers Your teacher will give you a sticker if you have been selected for a Content Group or a Closed Group If you do not receive a sticker, then you will choose an Open Group tomorrow after 6th period

Tuesday Find Tuesday on the weekly schedule If you have received a sticker for a Content or Closed Group, please write the group name on Tuesday under “What kind of group am I in?” (Ex: Math Content Group) Please write the room number listed on your sticker on Tuesday under “Where do I go after 6th period related arts?” If you have not received a sticker, please write Open Group on Tuesday under “What kind of group am I in?” Please write gym on Tuesday under “Where do I go after 6th period related arts?”

Wednesday Find Wednesday on the weekly schedule If you have received a sticker for a Content or Closed Group, please write the group name on Wednesday under “What kind of group am I in?” (Ex: Math Content Group) Please write the room number listed on your sticker on Wednesday under “Where do I go after 6th period related arts?” If you have not received a sticker, please write Open Group on Wednesday under “What kind of group am I in?” Please write gym on Wednesday under “Where do I go after 6th period related arts?”

Thursday Find Thursday on the weekly schedule If you have received a sticker for a Content or Closed Group, please write the group name on Thursday under “What kind of group am I in?” (Ex: Math Content Group) Please write the room number listed on your sticker on Thursday under “Where do I go after 6th period related arts?” If you have not received a sticker, please write Open Group on Thursday under “What kind of group am I in?” Please write gym on Thursday under “Where am I supposed to go after 6th period related arts?”

Friday On Friday, Advisory has already been filled in for you Please write the room number that you are in right now below where it says “Where do I go after 6th period related arts?”

Consequences You now officially have your schedule for this week You are expected to be in the locations listed on your Weekly Schedule when the bell rings to start 6th period If you are late or caught skipping, you will be escorted to the auditorium where an AP will immediately call home

Goal Setting On the bottom of your Movement, Consequences, and Goal Setting sheet, please do the following: Set a goal for yourself for this new Westport 101 period Write down steps you will take to achieve this goal
