Tone Mini-Lesson Tell-Tale Heart

Tone The AUTHOR’S or WRITER’S feelings The way the piece sounds as you read it. The AUTHOR’S or WRITER’S feelings As you read, you are getting that the author/writer was trying to send a certain message and feeling a certain way with the words that the author/writer uses.

Mood The READER’S attitude or feeling as you read What you feel as you read the piece The READER’S attitude or feeling as you read Everyone’s mood will be slightly different based on what each reader brings with them to the story

Word Choice Is the key to understanding the tone. Let’s look at some examples from the story
