The Cardiovascular System
Learning objectives Name the different blood vessels and understand their function Name the two circuits of the cardiovascular system and explain them
The cardiovascular system us made up of three main parts: The heart The blood Blood vessels
Two main types of blood vessel: Arteries – carry blood Away from the heart Veins – which carry blood towards the heart Visits
Controlling body temperature. What is the purpose of the cardiovascular system? Transporting substances around the body. These include oxygen, glucose, carbon dioxide, nutrients, water and waste products. Controlling body temperature. Protecting the body. Blood contains cells and anti-bodies that fight infection and clotting agents to stop bleeding.
? Basis behind the cardiovascular system ? Discuss what this diagram means…. ?
The heart has two circuits Systemic circuit - body circuit – carries: Oxygenated blood around the body in the arteries Deoxygenated blood back to the heart along the veins Pulmonary circuit– Lungs – carries: Deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs to be oxygenated The blood then goes back to the heart through veins to be oxygenated – which will then be pumped to the body circuit

Tasks to complete: Task 1: Label and colour in your diagram of the double circuit of the heart Task 2: Using either coloured card or cones, demonstrate a practical visual display of the body circuit Video for presentation
