Deutsch 1 Day to Day Activities Oktoberfest 2017 Deutsch 1 Day to Day Activities

Oktoberfest—15. September. 2017 Tomorrow begins the largest festival in the world, the Oktoberfest celebrated in Munich, Germany!

Oktoberfest—15. September. 2017 When will the Oktoberfest 2017 take place? On Saturday, September 16th, the Schottenhamel tent is the place to be, if you want to catch the official opening ceremonies. At noon, the Mayor of Munich will have the honor of tapping the first keg of Oktoberfest beer. Once the barrel has been tapped, all visitors will then be allowed to quench their thirst. It pays to arrive early in order to experience the festivities up close and personal and it's quite common for visitors to come around 9 am to secure good seats. The festival will last until October 3rd.

Oktoberfest—18. September. 2017 Yesterday! Is there a program of events to observe during this folk's festival? The main highlight of the Wiesn events and an important must-see is the Oktoberfest Costume and Riflemen’s Parade. The parade happens every year on the first Wiesn Sunday.

Oktoberfest—19. September. 2017 What is "Die Wiesn"? The locals in Munich fondly refer to Oktoberfest as "die Wiesn" because of its location, Theresienwiese, which was named after Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen Family day: all rides and performances cost less

Oktoberfest—20. September. 2017 Why is Oktoberfest called "Oktoberfest" when it actually begins in September? The historical background: the first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began on October 12, 1810 and ended on October 17th with a horse race. In the following years, the celebrations were repeated and, later, the festival was prolonged and moved forward into September.

Oktoberfest—21. September. 2017 Why is Oktoberfest called "Oktoberfest" when it actually begins in September? By moving the festivities up, it allowed for better weather conditions. Because the September nights were warmer, the visitors were able to enjoy the gardens outside the tents and the stroll over "die Wiesen" or the fields much longer without feeling chilly. Historically, the last Oktoberfest weekend was in October and this tradition continues into present times. Traditional religious Oktoberfest mass.—10:00 am

Oktoberfest—22. September. 2017 Do I have to pay an entrance fee? No, the entry to the area and all beer-tents is free.

Oktoberfest—25. September. 2017 Other important events are the Parade of Oktoberfest Landlords and Breweries, the Official Tapping of the Keg, the Oktoberfest Mass , "Böllerschießen" (handheld canon salute) in front of the Bavaria statue and - this year- an agricultural festival.

Oktoberfest—26. September. 2017 Do we have to dress up in Bavarian attire? Absolutely not, but we highly recommend it. It’s part of the cultural experience! Many locals and visitors of all ages choose to suit up in Trachten, traditional garb for the fest, with men sporting the suspendered the leather trouser lederhosen and woman the traditional Bavarian Dirndl.

Oktoberfest—27. September. 2017 How many people attend Oktoberfest? In 2015, over 7,000,000 people attended over three weeks.

Oktoberfest—28. September. 2017 What do you eat at Oktoberfest? You have a good choice of dishes. A must-try is the classic “Wiesn-Hendl” (grilled chicken), best enjoyed with French Fries. The slow-roasted, butterbasted chicken is irresistible after a few beverages. Freshly-baked and doughy, salt-strewn pretzels are delicious and extremely popular. Also expect to sample traditional sausages and the seemingly endless dessert options available at Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest—29. September. 2017 How is the weather at Oktoberfest? It is an important question because you can easily underestimate the impact of the weather on your health. When the Oktoberfest opens, the summer is clearly gone, yet the days can be still warm and cosy. Highs of 21°C/70°F are not unusual at all. But in the evenings and at night it can get chilly, even close to the freezing point, and there may be (sometimes heavy) rain.

Oktoberfest—3. Oktober. 2017 End of Oktoberfest 2017 Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 11.30 pm

Oktoberfest—3. Oktober. 2017 End of Oktoberfest 2017 Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 11.30 pm

Thus, in "good" years the Fest will be extended to catch the 3rd October - the Day of German Unity, a bank holiday - on a Monday or Tuesday. This happened in 2016, and it will happen in 2017 again (hoorah!).

Oktoberfest Oktoberfest in Germany 2017 will begin at 4:00 AM on Saturday, September 16 and ends on Tuesday, October 3 All times are in Central Time. Our time!
