MODERN CIRCUS BY OCKHAM’S RAZOR I had the chance to see the show « Tipping point » by the circus compagny Ockham’s razor, Friday April the 18th at the « Pisteur d’étoiles » festival in Obernai. Ockham’s razor is a compagny of 5 performers. It was created by Alex Harvey, the Head of Rigging/ Equipment, Charlotte Mooney, the Head of Press and Fundraising and Tina Koch, the Head of education and International relations. They will make a tour in 2017 in a lot of countries or cities like Ireland, Australia, Wales, England, France, Blegium… Tipping point is a show performed by  Alex Harvey, Telma Pinto, Steve Ryan, Emily Nicholl and Nich Galzin. The first performance of this show was in October 2015. They are used poles as their unique equipment. They circled the stage in a circle of white sand and started to perform. They climbed, jumped, walked, danced on this poles. Sometimes the audience was afraid because some figures were dangerous. But they seemed just to have fun. After the show I could talk to 3 performers : Nick, Emily and Telma. Nick explained to us that he is from England and he was studying at an art University and he started to perform on the street to get money. After that, he went to a circus school. Emily told us that she’s from Scotland and began the circus 6 years ago. Telma comes from Portugal. They all came to circus very late but they already were physically active. They chose circus because it regroups a lot of different disciplines and there are no rules. They also explained to us that they are stressed before a performance. « You souldn’t be to relaxed, you should be stressed » said Telma. The way they prepared their shows is : they researched 2 weeks on how they could use the poles differently (because they used them in a previous show). After that, they made auditions and they hired Telma and Emily. Tipping point is the idea of using one’s balance up to the moment one falls. They prefer modern circus because you can make people travel and give emotions. In the traditional circus, there are animals and they’re against that. Animals should be free and « we can do amazing things with our own bodies, it’s enough » said Telma. Everytime they’re on tour, they travel 2 weeks and then they return home. Emily talked about circus : « sometime it’s awesome and sometimes you felt lonely » but they all said that they’re a family. I saw a real friendship between this 3 peoples. They were connected and they trust each other. I really appreciated this show and the differents messages that the performers wanted to give to us. They seem very passionate and the audience was captivated by their show. I loved the fact that they had fun when they performed. It was very pleasant to see and talk with them.
