Masters Hooding: What to do before and during commencement

Step 1: Before Ceremony Remove folded hood from package.

tail front Partially unfold the hood so that it remains folded in half lengthwise. Locate the front of the hood, and the rectangular tail. Step 2:

tail front Place the hood over your LEFT arm, with the front away from your body and the rectangular tail toward your body. The velvet color will be next to your wrist. Step 3:

Start walking across the stage as soon as your name is read. Receive diploma folder from your college dean. Keep your arm folded in front of you. Step 4: During Ceremony

Step 5: The Vice Provost will reach for your hood, not to shake your hand.

Step 6: Quickly turn around with your back to the Vice Provost. Stoop (bend knees) so she can reach over your head.

Step 7: The hood will be placed over your head (remember to stoop).

Step 8: The hood will quickly be straightened, promptly move forward to the President to shake his hand and move off stage.
