My Robot JIBO Mr. Mejia

Procedure Each group of 3 students will research and present to the class information about the use of their assigned robot in today’s society. Your group will have two days to research and prepare a presentation that includes the following information.

PICK ONE ROBOT PER GROUP industrial robots, medical robots, assistive robots, exploratory robots, automated guided vehicles, robots in agriculture, telerobots, robot cars, rescue robots, robots in the future, robot toys, and household robots

Each group will research just one robot in that category and prepare a Google slide presentation that answers ALL the questions on the activity sheet.

GOOD EXAMPLE 1. Student will read from a note card or paper and read the answers they researched, while including photos that answer the question. ENTERTAIN THE READER

Types of sensors

BAD EXAMPLE (reading the screen) 1. What task does the robot perform? What human function or task does this robot simulate? Two hi-res cameras recognize and track faces, capture photos, and enable immersive video calling.360° microphones and natural language processing let you talk to Jibo from anywhere in the room.Hands-free reminders and messages, so you'll never forget and can always be in touch.Artificial Intelligence algorithms learn your preferences to adapt and fit into your life.Like a personal assistant, Jibo proactively helps you, to make everyday tasks simpler and easier.Communicates and expresses using natural social and emotive cues so you understand each other better. BAD EXAMPLE (reading the screen) Name some advantages and disadvantages of using a robot to complete this task. JIBO has advantages and as if the mobile computing revolution had to happen first before the world could accept a social robot in their homes. “It’s now possible to build a sophisticated social robot at a mass consumer price point.” Adding to the world’s acceptance of an in-home robot companion is its ability to connect to all smart home devices. Whether it’s checking e-mail messages or placing an order for takeout, JIBO recognizes personal preferences for each user. That means he quickly becomes integrated into the family. JIBO communicates and expresses using natural social and emotive cues so you understand each other better. With a 360 degree microphone and natural language processing, you’re able to chat with JIBO from anywhere in the room. Blah blahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah The disadvantages of Jibo are like this: Doesn't anyone care about their privacy any more? Technically, this device hears every word uttered in the house, whether you're directing your attention toward it or not. And if you think that information isn't being kept somewhere, just look at the warning Samsung has issued to consumers who purchased their Smart TV's: Do not talk about anything important or personal in front of your TV. Convenience aside, this gadget is spying on you.
