Tradition Tradition: During the time when Lord B-P served in the military, the British Empire was far flung throughout the world in its colonies. Soldiers, when dismissed from the military, had to make their own way home. They often worked assignments and duties at various ports of call, each getting him close to home. This was regarded as “Working one’s ticket” home. So, just as the military worked in significant posts and assignments to achieve their goal to go home, Lord B-P adopted this model for Wood Badge. Each Wood Badge trained participant must work their ticket to achieve their own goal, that is, their vision for themselves in Scouting.

Your Ticket Will Reflect . . . YOU! Values BSA Mission Vision Recall that just a few minutes ago we discuss that Values are those beliefs and commitments that bring us to act or behave in a particular way. Your values are those that give you reason to act to achieve what you see to be your vision and mission in Scouting. Nothing Happens Unless First A Dream. ~Carl Sandburg
Your Service to Others It’s not about you How can you best serve your unit, your district, your council? In the end, Scouting is not about you and me, it is about the youth and their families that we serve! “A Good Turn” ~Joseph Csatari, 1991
Primary Scouting Position Your Ticket will be based on what you see as your primary role in Scouting. You may be a Den Leader or Cubmaster You may be a dashing Scoutmaster You may be an Advisor for a Venturing Crew Or, perhaps your primary role is serving other Units as a Commissioner, or serving at the District or Council level The Ticket you develop will be focused on your key role.
Your Ticket Starts with Your Vision Where? What? Remember that your Vision is defined as your mental image of success in Scouting. Where do you want to be? What do you want to be doing? What does your Dream Group in Scouting look like and how does it perform? Dream Group?
Five Significant Goals Fulfill Your Vision Written Your Ticket is comprised of five significant goals. A goal is a meaningful project or task that you undertake to help yourself begin to achieve your vision in Scouting. Think of each goal as an activity that you will take on, by yourself or with others, for the benefit of your Unit, yourself, or for Scouting. Each must relate to the vision you have for yourself in Scouting. Each will be written to ensure it is clear and complete. One of the five goals must promote diversity in some aspect in Scouting. Finally, you will provide leadership to the achievement of the goal. Promote Diversity Demonstrates Leadership
