PAB Meeting MDM - March 2011 State - Tripura based on the Half Yearly Monitoring Reports for Dhalai district

Regularity in Serving Meals 1 Regularity in Serving Meals 1.The sample schools serve cooked meal during the working hours of the schools However, some of the surveyed schools failed to serve hot meals. 2.There are some delays in few schools who do not receive food grains regularly and in some cases there are delays for 2-3 months.

Cooking Cost Maximum numbers of sample schools do not receive cooking costs in advance. Generally, there is a delay of 01 to 03 months. Menu The sample schools weekly menu includes Khichri, Rice with egg curry and rice with vegetables. Supplementary 1.In the surveyed schools, the MI found 08 schools where children’s are given micronutrients. 2.The sample schools do not maintain health cards.

Infrastructure 1.MI found 25%schools where either kitchen shed not sanctioned or not constructed. 2.The food is cooked and stored in temporary rooms including classrooms/teachers room, etc. 3.In most of the sample schools, fresh water is not available for cooking and drinking purposes. Storage system is also very poor. 4.Most of the schools reported that the utensils are inadequate. 5.In the sample schools, the MI observed that all the schools use firewood as fuel.

Others Points 1.The cooking process and storage of fuel is not safe. 2.The children are encouraged to wash hands but water is a constraint for it in most of the schools. 3. In many schools, the parents participate in the mid day meal programme.
