INTRODUCTION TO EXPRESSIVE SKILLS Year 7 Drama

Learning Intentions Know: how to use expressive skills such facial expressions, voice, movement and gesture. Do: develop and refine expressive skills to communicate non-verbal and verbal communication. Be: expressive through use of body language, facial expression and voice.

WHAT ARE EXPRESSIVE SKILLS?

EXPRESSIVE SKILLS Is when EMOTION is expressed through the actors body language and facial expressions. It is needed so the audience can relate or connect to the character according to the storyline. Example: Red Riding Hood (Sweet innocent) VS Big Bad Wolf (Nasty and Greedy) THE FOLLOWING ARE THE EXPRESSIVE SKILLS WE USE IN PERFORMANCE. (Write these in your books on the second page)

LETS PRACTICE VOICE BODY FACIAL

ACTIVTY In pairs come up with a short role play (scene) between a Police Officer and a Driver using the expressive skills. THE KEY IS TO exaggerate!

EVALUATE In pairs discuss the following about each other and then write into your book: What did you do well? Eg clear voice, good facial expression What do you need to work on to improve your perfomance? Did you use class time effectively and work well with your partner? What didn’t work well? Give yourself a mark out of 10
