Objectives: SWBAT Discuss the effects of China and India’s population policies by utilizing the Say Something strategy.” Agenda: House keeping (pass in hw, Th & Fr = review) Cornell Notes (:20) Say something- China and India (:30) Reading questions on India’s Population

What is a government policy? Policy = a government plan Ex = a population policy is a government’s plan about how to control the population growth of its people

What is an expansive population policy? When the government seeks to increase the rate of natural increase (NIR) Ex = Russia’s population is decreasing so government gives 10,000 to women who give birth to a second or third child

What is an eugenic population policy? When the government encourages one race to reproduce while restricting another race from reproducing. Ex = Nazi Germany encouraged white Aryans to reproduce with each other while making it illegal for white Aryans to have sex with Jews or other “non-white” Aryans.

What is a restrictive population policy? When the government seeks to reduce the rate of natural increase (NIR). Gov’ts do this by: 1. encouraging the use of contraceptives 2. subsidizing abortions 3. sterilizing people 4. prohibiting large families Ex. China’s one child policy
