Energy in Food - Design Practical 10/05/2015 Energy in Food - Design Practical Learning Objectives Design an experiment to find out which has more energy fat, carbohydrate (sugar) or protein. Sugar Fat Protein

Energy in Food - Design Practical 10/05/2015 Energy in Food - Design Practical Aim - Design an experiment to investigate which has more energy fat, carbohydrate (sugar) or protein. Hypothesis - Predict which will have more energy and explain why you think that (you may do some research). Variables - Independent (This is the variable you will change) Dependent (This is what you will measure) Controlled (This is what you want to keep constant)

Energy in Food - Design Practical 10/05/2015 Energy in Food - Design Practical Materials - Select the materials you will need, remember to include the sizes of all apparatus. Method - Write your method using numbers or bullet points, remember to explain how you will control the variables you have already selected. Explain precisely what data you will collect and how much. Remember what you have to write is step by step what you would do so that someone else is able to follow and repeat the experiment. Start each point with a command word.

Energy in Food - Design Practical 10/05/2015 Energy in Food - Design Practical Results - Data Table (title, headings, units, all data to the same number of decimal places). Example calculation. Graph (title, label axis, units, appropriate scales and line/curve of best fit). Carbs 4 calories per gram Protein 4 calories per gram Fat 9 calories per gram

Energy in Food - Design Practical 10/05/2015 Energy in Food - Design Practical Conclusion - What did your results show? (Describe the shape of the graph). Explain your results. (Explain the shape of your graph) Evaluation - Comment on the quality of your data. Did you have enough results? Was the data reliable/accurate? Describe the limitations of the experiment and suggest improvements (Could you do the experiment in a better way? Is there better equipment you could have used?)
