Juniors: Some information Registration starts on Monday April 9 for rising seniors EN.540.313.13 Senior lab is offered in the summer, registration has started Or consider the Denmark program this summer Keep you credit load reasonable to allow time for preparations for the next step
Juniors: Getting ready for Graduation We audit your checklists three times during senior year and send you two updates; contact us only if you don’t get any feedback Talk to your advisor before making any changes Fill out the research form (on UG ChemBE website) to count your research credits only if you need them (next slide) Fill out the waiver forms we suggest with your advisor and return them to Ms. Bracey’s mailbox Registration for graduation coming next year (winter, spring or summer) No need to apply for the track, it will not be listed on your diploma, only on audit form Department honors are automatic, do not “apply” You can walk in May 2019 even if you take one course in summer 19
Research Credits You can count up to 4 credits of research as engineering electives and track electives. If you work in a ChemBE lab sign up for 540.511 (fall) or 540.513 (spring) 4 credits will automatically count towards engineering elective and track. If you work in another engineering lab sign up under Undergraduate Group Research 5xx.511 (fall) or 5xx.512 (spring) Four credits will automatically count towards engineering elective and the matching track. If you work outside the engineering school, sign up for 540.501 (fall) or 540.503 (spring) through your advisor. To count your credits as Eng. electives, fill out the Research Credit Elective Request form on ChemBE website for approval.
Juniors: what comes next? Large companies recruit in September-November; have your resume ready Work with the career office Check the HCCN website Applications for graduate school in December-January Plan to take the GRE Do not wait too long to ask for letters of recommendation Graduate school applicants, consider some higher level courses (APC? Math? Thermo? Transport?). Use Matlab! Pre-med applicants, work with the pre-professional office
Questions? Please contact Ms. Kailey Dille or see BS/MS: Overview Two options: Research (thesis) and Course-based Research: 6 courses (4 ChemBEs) and research Work in a ChemBE lab under the supervision of an advisor. We can help you find an advisor. Course-based: 10 courses (6 ChemBEs) Both programs: 2 courses can count toward both B.S. and M.S.E. but they need to be at the 600-level (very few exceptions) Additional 600-level courses may only count towards one degree. GPA: generally a minimum of a 3.0 (few exceptions) NO GRE required and only one recommendation letter (Advisor) You can start research early Students from the program tend to place well: Intel, Accenture, Nasa, Genentech, Biotech industry, Med School, Grad School. Questions? Please contact Ms. Kailey Dille or see Dr. Frechette
