Dear parents and guardians, Your child will be participating in our school reading fair. This is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their presentation skills. They will pick out and read a book of their choice for this project. Then they will be making a tri-fold poster to use as they present their project. You can help at home in a couple of ways. First, You will need to purchase a white tri-fold poster board for you child. They will select a book next week and figure out how many pages they need to read each day. You can help them by checking to make sure the daily reading assignments get completed. You can also ask them questions about the plot, characters, setting, conflict, resolution, point of view, and theme. These items will be on their tri-fold poster. They will have one class period, during the week of February 20, to work on their poster. If they do not complete it during that class period, they will need to complete their poster at home. You can help by making sure this project gets done before the due date. Your child has an instruction sheet for the novel project and the poster.   Students need to finish their book by: February 9 Posters are due by: March 1 Reading fair date: March 2 Thanks for your support from home!   Mrs. Markland

Reading Fair Tri-fold Poster Expectations Include your name and homeroom (I would prefer it to be typed.) Have thorough information on the story elements (character, setting, plot, theme, point of view, conflict, and resolution) Label each of the elements on your poster with a heading Each of the elements should have a separate section on the poster Have the title of your book as the title of the poster The title should be larger than the story elements text boxes Have at least three pictures One needs to be a picture of the book cover One needs to be a picture of the author One can be any picture that relates to the novel You can substitute 3D objects glued to your poster for the third picture Your pictures need to have the URL citation printed below the picture Have information about the author Label the author section with a heading Include at least five details about the author Include information about if the book is part of a series and other books the author has written. All text and pictures on the poster should be typed, printed out, and glued on to a white tri-fold poster board. Everything on the poster should be at least 14 sized font that is easy to read. All text should be black or dark in color so it is easy to read (Title can be a different color) Pictures should be clear and big enough to see. Feel free to be creative, but make sure the creativity does not hinder the reader from being able to learn from the content on your poster. You may also bring "props" to put on the table in front of your poster to add to the presentation. Please do not bring valuable items as they can be stolen.

Reading Fair Tri-Fold Poster Rubric Advanced Proficient Progressing Beginning Elements: All elements are explained thoroughly with much detail. All elements are explained and have their own separate sections. One of the elements is missing or all are present but very little explanation is given. Not enough evidence of elements to grade. Author Facts: All five facts are interesting and detail is added about series or other books written. The five facts about the author are present. Three - four facts about the author are present. Two or fewer facts are present. Presentation: The board is very neat and creative. Design and creativity went into the project to engage readers. Time was spent on creativity and neatness. All items are typed. The project is neat and presentable. Readers can easily focus on the content because the information is well organized. Time was spent on neatness. All items are typed. The project is somewhat neat and has needed information. There are parts of the poster that could use improvement. Some items my not be typed. Project has some parts done, but more time is needed to make it presentable.

Presentation Rubric Advanced Proficient Progressing Beginning Speaker looks at all audience members multiple times throughout speech. Speaker looks at some audience members multiple times during speech. Speaker looks at one or two people at a couple of times during the speech. Speaker does not have enough eye contact. Speaker stands up tall and does not sway at all. Hand gestures are used. Speaker stands up tall and does not sway at all. Speaker sometimes sways or has back towards audience. Speaker’s posture distracts from presentation. Speaker varies voice volume and pitch as appropriate for speech. Audience can tell the speech has been practiced many times because of the fluency. Speaker is always able to be heard. Audience can tell the speech has been practiced at least once because of the fluency. Speaker cannot always be heard. The speech needs to be practiced some more, but content is communicated. Speaker is not prepared to give this presentation.
