3.2 Summary: How Human influence Ecosystems  Sustainability: is the ability of an ecosystem to sustain itself or the ability of an ecosystem to continue.
3.3 How Introduced Species Affect Ecosystems By the end of section 3.3 you should be able to understand the following:  Native species refer to the organisms.
What shouldn’t be there!. Invasive or Exotic Species are organisms that have been introduced into an environment. It does not naturally occur in a specific.

INVASIVE SPECIES INVESTIGATOR!. WHAT IS A NATIVE SPECIES? Every kind of animal, plant, or micro- organism has a home where it has existed for thousands.
3.3 Threats to Biodiversity. 1.Habitat Loss (most significant threat to biodiversity) Occurs when events alter an ecosystem so much that many species.

Invasive Species. Apparently harmless animals and plants that are transported around the world. In their new habitats invasive species reproduce rapidly.
An ecosystem is a particular environment that contains living and nonliving parts. Ecology is the scientific study of how organisms interact with each.

Threats to Biodiversity
Biodiversity Biodiversity is genetic variation within populations and variation of populations within ecosystems; the variety of species in one area.
What are invasive species? Can you think of any examples?
Introduce Species.
Invasive Species I can: Predict the impact and consequences of an invading organism on the survival of itself and other organisms.

Notes: Invasive Species Tuesday 1-5-10 Notes: Invasive Species

(1) Defining Invasive Species Foreign organisms which invade and conquer ecosystems, often altering available resources. Examples: Zebra Mussels Nutria Sea Lamprey Garlic Mustard

Zebra Mussels Brought in from Black Sea Waters on Importing Ships Reproduce Rapidly, Cover ALL Surfaces, Deplete Aquatic Nutrients for other organisms, Ruin Man-Made structures.

Nutria Brought in from South America Americans wanted to breed nutria for their pelts/fur Became overpopulated  reproduce quickly Depleting plant matter and fish matter in swamps Currently found in the south

Sea Lamprey comes from the Atlantic Ocean Entered Great Lakes through canals Harms + Overeats native fish in the great lakes.

Garlic Mustard European Plant Not able to pinpoint mode of transportation Overpopulates Michigan Forests Depletes resources for Michigan wildflowers, and consequently Michigan trees

(2) Simpsons Episode: Bart Vs. Australia What is the Invasive Species? Where did the Invasive Species come from? What harm does the Invasive Species cause in Australia? Which animal may become America’s new Invasive Species?
