Types of Financial Aid Grants Money given to students based on family financial need Federal Pell Grant ($2,920 - $293/semester) Louisiana Go Grant ($1,000/semester) Must be receiving Pell Must be a Louisiana resident Loans Money borrowed by student or parent which must be repaid, usually with interest Work Study Money earned from part-time campus job Need-based means that your family's financial resources,measured by a federal formula, are not sufficient to cover your educational costs. This formula analyzes a family's income and assets to determine its Expected Family Contribution (EFC) toward the cost of college

TOPS Rules Full Time Enrollment Continuously enroll as a full time student (12 credit hours) each Fall and Spring semester 24 Hours Must pass/earn 24 hours each school year School year is August-July and includes regular Fall, Spring & Summer semesters and Intersessions Hours earned in Advanced Placement or HS Dual-Enrolled are not applied to 24 hours FAILURE TO EARN 24 HOURS WILL PERMANENTLY CANCEL TOPS!

Financial Aid Rules Repeat Rule students can only receive federal aid twice for the same course once passed, even if a higher grade is needed to satisfy departmental requirements. Advising Graduating Seniors Students cannot receive federal aid if they are not pursuing a degree or certificate. A student who graduates must change their major if they plan to re-enroll to be eligible for federal aid.

Students must attend class to be eligible for aid Financial Aid Rules Students must attend class to be eligible for aid 60% point of semester equals 100% aid of the semester FN - Hours do not count in Financial Aid Eligibility FS – Important for last date of attendance. If a student received federal aid and has a 0.0 GPA at the end of the semester, we have to verify they earned that 0.0 and that they attended class, otherwise they have to repay aid that was disbursed to them.

Failure to Meet SAP Standards Financial Aid Warning: A student who fails to meet SAP is placed on Financial Aid Warning. A Student on Financial Aid Warning may receive federal financial aid for the next term of enrollment without appeal. Financial Aid Suspension: A student who fails to meet SAP while on Financial Aid Warning is placed on Financial Aid Suspension and is not eligible to receive federal financial aid. The student may appeal to request continuation of federal financial aid. Appeals for aid are submitted by the student through ULink and are reviewed by the Academic Success Center A successful appeal allows continuation of eligibility of federal financial aid for the next term. If the appeal is unsuccessful and the student wishes to reestablish eligibility for federal financial aid, the student must enroll at least ½ time, cover tuition and fees from sources other than federal financial aid and meet SAP standards.

Things to Know Unpaid Debt Holds are now on students with a balance over $2,500 that have no anticipated aid on their account. (TOPS) Unpaid Debt Holds will be going on any student with an outstanding debt before registration begins for Spring 2018 (excluding students on the payment plan who have not missed a payment deadline) Students must clear their semester debts within 60 days of the end of the semester or they will be turned over for collection and incur a 33.33% collection costs. (State Law)
