Folk Rock The folk rock genre varies in many different ways. This genre of 60’s music is very broad. Folk rock includes a variety of traditional & regional music. There is a lot of bits and pieces of other genres tied into folk rock. It’s a clean, harmonized approach on electric instruments. Folk rock had a positive impact on culture of the 60’s. It fostered anti-war and emphasized freedom and environmental respect. Also, christian youth put folk rock music to use in there workshops & retreats to inspire faith and commitment. Prime examples of classic folk rock; Bob Dylan, The Byrds, the Mama’s and Papa’s http://www.biography.com/people/bob-dylan-9283052

The Facts Folk rock genre originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the mid 60’s. Bob Dylan had a performance on july 25, 1965 at the Newport Folk Festival which was considered a moment in the development of Folk Rock. Things associated with folk rock includes American working struggles, civil rights and Vietnam war. People would gather in coffee shops and sing about there everyday concerns in life. Historical events related to folk rock music are the vietnam war. For example Bob Dylans song “A Hard Rain’s a Gonna Fall”. "I heard the sound of a thunder, it roared out a warnin' I heard the roar of a wave that could drown the whole world I heard one hundred drummers whose hands were a-blazin' I heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin'" Read more: BOB DYLAN - A HARD RAIN'S A - GONNA FALL LYRICS

Smoked cigarettes in most of his photos Bob Dylan’s voice changed over the years due to lots of smoking and emphysema. Dylan spent almost a year recovering from a fatal motorcycle accident contributing to his voice change. Smoked cigarettes in most of his photos David Crosby changed the band from Beefeaters to the Byrds.

The Band, Bob Dylan Electric Acoustic Bob Dylan, I’d say is the ultimate icon of folk rock of the 60’s. his music consists of a lot of acoustics and poetic/protesting lyrics. He performed by himself with just himself his guitar and harmonica. He started off very acoustic but tried to turn his sound around and add half electric which his fans didn’t approve of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlT-7_npMQo Acoustic Electric http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RlUryDUv4Q

Conclusion Folk rock changed over the years in the 60’s by instrumental and lyrical changes. A lot of acoustics turned to electric. New genres of music began to develop as well such as bluegrass.
