Career Clusters

Agriculture & Natural Resources The agriculture, food, and natural resources career cluster people are interested in the areas of distribution, marketing, and processing to goods dealing with agricultural products. People are also interested in becoming a farmer, food scientist, or tree trimmer. Characteristics: 1. Natural resources, horticulture, and animal products. 2. Food, fuel, fiber, and wood products

Architecture and Construction The people within the architecture and construction career cluster plan, maintain, and design buildings. Examples of the items they construct are road, houses, skyscrapers, and parks. Characteristics: 1. Hands-on learners, likes to work independently, producing results quickly 2. Examples of careers: Architect, pipe layer, and carpenter

Arts and Video Technology People in this career cluster would like to become a news reporter, book publisher, or video graphics engineer. They produce, design, and write multimedia content for the community. Characteristics: People skills, independent, resourceful Dislikes long explanations and prefers to the point approach Occupations include: Artist, music producer, actor, comedian

Business Management and Administration People in this cluster organize large and small businesses to ensure activities go smoothly in their office. Occupations within this cluster include, accountant, entrepreneur, chief executive officer. Characteristics: Confident, motivated, has excellent communication skills, natural leaders Dislike low tolerance for disorganization and inefficiency

Education and Training People in this career cluster plan and implement lessons adults and children. They also, provide training and learning support services to those within their community. Characteristics: Outstanding people skills, structure, organization, creative and imaginative Occupations include: teacher, textbook author, corporate trainer, department chair

Finance People in this career cluster provide financial and investment banking to clients. They also, monitor the stock market and sell insurance products. Characteristics: Very decisive, committed to completing tasks, excellent communication skills Occupations include: accountant, tax preparer, stock broker, and insurance agent

Government and Public Administration People in this career cluster work with the state, local and national government. They make decisions on how the government will act on foreign services, regulate laws and taxes within the United States. Characteristics: 1. Cooperative, supportive, and appreciative of others, strong communication skills, flexible and willing to work with others. 2. Occupations include: President, transportation inspector, air crew member, and diplomat

Health Science In the health science field, people provide health information, therapeutic services, and diagnose various illnesses. These people work in all parts of the United States from large cities to small rural communities. Characteristics: 1. Focused and not easily distracted, considerate of others, hard-working and dependable. 2. Occupations include: Doctor, nurse, dental assistant, dietitian, athletic trainer, and certified nursing assistant

Hospitality and Tourism Hospitality and tourism is the world’s largest industry. The workers manage, market and operate restaurants and other food service venues. They also work in lodging, recreation events and travel related fields. Characteristics: Energetic and goal orientated, sociable and willing to interact with others, and like to initiate things. Occupations include: Tour guide, travel agent, chef, and convention planner

Human Services People who work in human services work with families and human needs. They may work in a daycare center, counsel those who may need emotional support, or work with the elderly or disabled. Characteristics: Kind, considerate, and sensitive to others, have a strong values system, and are detailed orientated. Occupations include: Barber, clergy, guidance counselor, social worker, and hair dresser.

Information Technology These people design, develop, support, and manage software and other technological systems. They have a strong math and science background which helps with being on the cutting edge of technology. Characteristics: Dependable, hard working, alert, extremely thorough Occupations include: Computer technician, web administrator, computer programmer, and network designer.

Law, Public, Safety, and Corrections Individuals who plan, manage, and provide legal, public safety protective services, and homeland security. They play an important role within all communities. Characteristics: Hardworking, dependable, loyal, athletic, and natural leaders Occupations include: detective, paramedic, lawyer, and police officer

Manufacturing People within this career cluster create final products which are related to production planning. They control, maintain, and engineer products for various industries. Characteristics: Prefer hands on work, self confident, excellent with troubleshooting ideas. Occupations include: Assembler, electrical installer/repairer, and machinist

Marketing Marketing professionals plan, manage, and perform activities related to the goals of an organization. They may hand out flyers, work with social media, or research consumer habits. Characteristics include: Creative and diverse, prefer a flexible schedule, strong people skills, and are clever/sharp. Occupations include: Fashion designer, real estate agent, sales representative, and market research analyst.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Characteristics include: independent, determined, innovative, and creative Occupations: technical writer, microbiologist

Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics Working behind the scenes to coordinate, manage, and move goods to their destination. Characteristics: value tradition, good citizens, natural leaders, and dependable Occupations: Driver, dispatcher, and traffic manager
