August 21, 2017 Today’s Agenda: Good morning Junior Bucks! This is your first day of school at Deerfield Beach Middle school! Our 2017-2018 school theme is Get On Board..Destination Excellence! We are asking you to join us on this journey to achieving a B grade! We ask that you bring humility, trust, hope and love on this train. Today, you will learn the procedures for passes, transitions, lunch, etc. This is going to be a great start to your best year yet – and it starts now! Our Goals with These Agreements: Morning Procedures Our Goals with These Agreements: ~ To start the day on a positive note ~ To maximize time for fun activities and social time

Breakfast & Morning Arrival From 7:00 to 7:30: Students enter the cafeteria through the South side doors only. Students get breakfast and immediately fill in seats/tables from the first to the fifth table on the North side of the cafeteria. Students not eating breakfast should fill in tables/seats from the fifth table towards the stage. Students are responsible for cleaning their own table and taking trash to the conveyor. Students remain seated during all of breakfast. Talking is permitted to students in immediate area of where student is sitting. Students cannot exit the cafeteria once inside. Student expectations Breakfast must be eaten before going outside. No food can be taken outside once inside the cafeteria. Walk at all times when inside. Eating area must be 100% clean before the table is dismissed. Adult expectations Monitors will arrive on time. Monitors will remain vigilant throughout breakfast. Schoolwide Procedures

Eating area must be 100% clean before the table is dismissed. Adult expectations Teachers will move swiftly to their classrooms to receive and greet students. Students on the patio will be dismissed at 7:37am by a long whistle. Students should move quickly and safely to their 1st period class at the sound of the whistle. At 7:40, the school bell will dismiss students holding in the cafeteria after breakfast. Students should exit from the North doors only quickly and safely. Schoolwide Procedures

Read your Do Now, take out your notebook and pen/pencil, then get started with your work.. Raise your hand if you have any questions or need assistance. Morning announcements will begin at 8:00 am Student expectations If you’re late, go to the office for a pass. Enter quietly if you’re tardy, and unpack quickly. Make sure you have what you need. Be in uniform daily. Adult expectations Get attendance done by 8:00. Check that students are in uniform. Send out of uniform students to the office. Don’t forget the Out of Uniform form. The DBMS Way in the Hallways Being Respectful Every person will be at Voice Level 1 at all times in the halls to respect others’ learning. Stay on the right side of the hallway and stairs. Walk to your classes. ~To print for students ~ Expectations for students AND teachers! ~ Adults will sign up for hallway duty – being present during passing periods to help maintain silence and safety Doing Your Best Work hard. Show grit. Master perseverance and resiliency. Use the Power of YET! (We’ll cover this soon.) Taking Care of Others Smile at others and look friendly! When entering a class or when addressing an adult, look them in the eye, give a handshake and say Good Morning or Good Afternoon. Schoolwide Procedures

Your Climate. Your Culture. Your Choice. Silent Signals Student expectations Be aware that adults needs your attention. Help classmates be aware of the signals. Adult expectations Wait for 100%. Determine best logical consequence for not getting quiet. Schoolwide: “If you can hear me, clap once.” “If you can hear me, clap twice.” Put up peace sign. For Immediate Silence (Announcements, Safety Concerns): Intercom announcements will begin with a chime. This is the signal to immediately become silent. In person: teachers will hold up a hand and say, "Give Me Five." Students put their hands in the air and shout "five!" As they count down to one, they get progressively quieter until "one" is said in a whisper. For Regular Instructions: Classroom teachers will teach specific signals, such as call and response, chimes, or clapping. ACTION NEEDED: Grade-level teams should determine classroom silent signals and communicate them with all teachers of those students. AE Schoolwide Procedures

Transitioning to Other Classes Voice Level for Lining Up: 1 5 minutes before bell Teacher gives signal to pack up Voice Level in the Hallway: 1st Bell Class is dismissed ACTION NEEDED: Grade-level teams determine start-of-class routine, including getting materials, turning in homework, and writing down assignments. 2nd Bell Students should be in their seat in their next class with materials out. Student expectations Wait for the signal from your teacher to start packing up! Adult expectations Dismiss ONLY at the 1st bell. Be sure to send students to next class on time. Start of Class Students follow expected routine for entering class, getting materials, and starting the Do Now. Schoolwide Procedures

Adult expectations Contact security with Code B student Bathroom, Office, or Clinic Students are not allowed to leave the classroom without a security escort Per school policy, students are allowed one bathroom break per quarter. To ask the teacher, raise your hand with the correct signal and wait patiently for your teacher to respond. If the office calls for a student, wait for a security escort. The DBMS Way in the Cafeteria Your Climate. Your Culture. Your Choice. The DBMS Way in the Cafeteria Being Respectful Stay at voice level 1 or 2. Wait to be dismissed to line up for school lunches. Doing Your Best Raise your hand if you want to get up. Get a pass from a teacher if you plan to go to their class. Always remember to put your lunch in the lunch bin. ~To print for students ~Monitor note – each teacher should hold two boy and two girl bathroom passes and be responsible for 2 classes Taking Care of Others Take responsibility for leaving your area clean. Include anyone who wants to talk or sit next to you. Schoolwide Procedures

Your Climate. Your Culture. Your Choice. Having Lunch Voice Level: 2 At beginning of lunch: Students go straight to assigned table and are seated. Monitors determine first class to be allowed to line. Students will get all food and drink at this time. (11:00am-11:30) If a student breaks a rule-standing or walking around during lunch, antagonizing other students, or breaking school rules will be sent to the silent lunch table and given a consequence by lunch monitor. Student expectations Students should remain seated throughout lunch. No bathroom breaks are allowed during lunch. Adult expectations Teachers should walk students to the cafeteria in a line and escort them to their assigned table. If teachers see students outside the cafeteria without supervision escort students inside the cafeteria. ACTION NEEDED: looking at student schedules, determine the procedures for going to lockers before lunch and recess each day, then communicate to students Schoolwide Procedures

Your Climate. Your Culture. Your Choice. Ending Lunch Eating Ends: Monitors will notify each table when to put their trash away Finish all food. Get all materials packed up or ready to be thrown away. Cleanup Begins: Monitors will identify one student to assist cleaning the table. Everyone else remains seated. Student expectations There is no restroom use once cleanup starts. Stage Schoolwide Procedures

Schoolwide Procedures Dismissal Outside Student expectations Exit through your correct door and walk to the front or back if necessary. There is no running, horseplay, or games during dismissal. No electronics are out unless permission is given for contacting a parent. Adult expectations Be responsible for your students. At the final bell, dismiss students reminding them to walk to their destination with urgency (quickly and with a purpose). Today, we will experience a Solar Eclipse in the afternoon. Please do not look directly in the sun when you are transitioning to your fifth and sixth period classes and leaving school today. Schoolwide Procedures
