News from the Jungle Math Reading/Language By Mrs. Landis September 25, 2017 Reading/Language Kindergarteners will be working with the letter and sound for Vv. We will be reading Plaidypus Lost and Abuela to get ready for Grandparents’ Day. First Graders will be learning about the “R Apartment” on Vowel Town. This is where ar, er, ir, ur and or live. We will also be spelling words with e at the end making the vowel say its name instead of its sound. Math Kindergarteners will be finishing the chapter on comparing numbers 0-9 this week, while First Graders will be learning more strategies for addition. We will start Rocket Math timed tests! Things we need: *Snacks *Hand Sanitizer *Cookies for Kindergarten Grandparent’s Day on Friday Show and Tell Tuesday – Zaedenn, Tommy, Beau, Gavin, Olivia Wednesday – Blaine, Charlie, Amberly, Paul, Myles Thursday – Kenadie, Brynlee, Noble, Gracie If your child does not have PE Shoes, please send some ASAP! We are having PE on our new gym Floor and they must have shoes! Coming up… September 28 2:00 – Chester Drawers Assembly September 29 – 2:30 Grandparents’ Day! All Grandparents of Kindergarteners are invited to our room for a fun time! September 30 – Bulldog Dash Fun Run October 2-6 – Anti Bullying Week! Mon. – Wear PJ’s and put bullying to sleep! News from the Jungle Math it , all Reading/Language By Mrs. Landis September 5, 2017 Reading/Language Kindergarteners will be working with the letter and sounds for Mm. We will be reading The Little School Bus, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and If You Give a Moose a Muffin. We will talk about characters in a story. First Graders will be reviewing consonant letters and sounds and Vowel Town. We will also be learning about reading strategies with “Skippy Frog” and “Tryin’ Lion”. Ask your Firstie about “Eagle Eye”, “Lips the Fish”, “Stretchy Snake”, and “Chunky Monkey”. These are good strategies to use when you don’t know a word. Math We will all be working on writing numbers quickly. Kindergarteners will be counting, reading and writing numbers 0-3 this week, while First Graders will start putting those sets together to add. Remember – Your child does not have to do the HOMEWORK page from the Math book. But if they do, they will get a fuzzy! We will be reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears and talking about the character of a story. First Graders will keep reviewing consonant letters and sounds and Vowel Town. We will be learning about visualizing when you read. Please watch for books to come home that your child can read to you! They will get 1 fuzzy for every person they read to. Math We have been working on writing numbers quickly. Kindergarteners will be comparing numbers 0-9 this week, while First Graders will be learning strategies for addition. We will start Rocket Math timed tests next week! Friday Fun Day this week is Flashlight Fun! Bring a flashlight to read with!
